Carbon removal at RMI

Excited to team up with Isometric, WSP and other leaders in #cdr and mining to convene this working group to assess the feasibility of integrating geochemical #CDR (enhanced #mineralization and #weathering) into mining.   Here's how the RMI CDR team (formerly The Climate Map) sees the need and opportunity:   1) Scaling CDR requires testing a portfolio of approaches, including geochemical CDR methods: https://lnkd.in/e5zqpkAM https://lnkd.in/dMZFYBz5   2) Geochemical technologies are early stage. They've a lot of potential for innovation and impact. There are also many Qs to answer on the science, impacts, and costs: https://lnkd.in/ghPkVgaY 3) There's a lot of work to be done on R&D, business model design, incentives (especially to ensure sustained decarbonization in the mining industry alongside its engagement with CDR), MRV, regulation, and system design, and the mining industry has a key role to play: https://lnkd.in/ekK-RD8w https://lnkd.in/e7NqRnnw If you've an interest in these topics and in joining the working group, please reach out. Isometric is partnering with WSP, a global engineering and professional services firm, and RMI, a market-driven climate solutions nonprofit founded as Rocky Mountain Institute, to convene a working group to explore opportunities to integrate carbon mineralization and other geochemical forms of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) into mining industry operations. The working group will bring together key stakeholders in the mining and CDR fields to bridge the gap between academic research and industry. More than a dozen institutions will contribute their expertise to assess the feasibility of implementing CDR in mining.
