Continuing with panel discussions on #EdTech and #DigitalEducation moderated by Phd Ugljesa Marjanovic. We explored critical challenges shaping the future of education and technology integration: • Bridging the gap between education specialists and business/technology experts is essential for mutual enrichment and tackling shared challenges. • Speed vs. Research Gap: The fast-paced needs of companies clash with the lengthy timelines of research, highlighting a significant disconnect. • Purpose of Research: Are we leveraging research to create high-quality solutions or simply using it as a marketing tool? These discussions shed light on the evolving dynamics of innovation and education. #EdTechTalents #EducationTechnology #DigitalTransformation #EvidenceBasedEducation #TallinnUniversity

Given the empirically documented history showing that educational technologies rarely work as intended or expected, *why* do the visionary promises of inventors, investors, and industry figures continue to persist and gain traction? New editorial in Learning, Media and Technology 'against contextlessness' in critical research on #edtech. With Ben Williamson and John Potter (heavy lifting by Ben!). Part of the problem is that the actual contexts of educational institutions are still rarely considered when new digital technologies are promoted for use in schools, colleges or universities. So, in this issue of LMT, we gather together a host of (imho) exciting papers that do tackle these questions of context and institutionalisation. Featuring analyses by Joshua M. Rosenberg, Conrad Borchers, Sondra M. Stegenga, Macy A. Burchfield, Daniel Anderson & Christian Fischer, Emma Day, Kruakae Pothong, Ayça Atabey & Sonia Livingstone, Signe Sophus Lai, Victoria Andelsman Álvarez & Sofie Flensburg, Karen Gravett, George Veletsianos & Shandell Houlden, Daniel Clark, Laura Czerniewicz & Jennifer Feldman, Stephanie Schroeder, Catharyn Shelton & Rachelle Curcio, Sejin Lee & Kyungmee Lee, Niels Kerssens, T. Philip Nichols & Luci Pangrazio, the issue ends with two papers on how we can imagine institutions otherwise, by Teresa Swist, Thilakshi Mallawa Arachchi, Jenna Condie & Benjamin Hanckel, and Sian Bayne. https://lnkd.in/eYvUxcMv

Academic Innovation: A true source of untapped potential? Universities are brimming with brilliant minds and groundbreaking research, yet the full potential of academic ecosystems often remains untapped. Why? 🤔 In our latest blog, Managing Partner Bardia Bijani dives into two core challenges that frequently stand in the way: incentives and mindset. From misaligned goals between researchers and commercialization offices to the hesitancy of researchers to collaborate due to ethical concerns, academia’s innovation journey is complex. But we think there is a way forward! 🚀 Check out the full blog, where you can learn more about bottlenecks and what we're doing to bridge the gaps through our academic ecosystem, Inventia. A few days ago, I attended a fantastic webinar hosted by #AERDF and #ISTE. One of the first slides caught my attention – it highlighted the current state of R&D in the education sector. Surprisingly, only a small fraction of academic research addresses real-world problems and even fewer results in sustainable products for education. This isn't just an issue in education; it's a widespread challenge across all academic research fields. We urgently need organizations and individuals to bridge this gap. Collaboration between academic researchers and private companies is key to making this happen. I share again… #PeerReviewed “Technological innovation is one of the determining variables of the evolution of social systems and organizations, but it is not sufficient in and of itself. Once more, what is needed is culture, shared knowledge and education to allow systems to metabolize change and to efficiently manage the out-of-control phases that accompany the accelerations imposed by technology, which – it must not be forgotten – is always a product of culture and never something “external” P.D.(1998). “Rethinking Education… beyond the False Dichotomies** #QuotetheAuthors An approach and research since 1995
