𝗜'𝗺 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝘅 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱. 𝗧𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀, 𝗜 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸, 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. I often meet mothers who face these challenges, and because of this, they end up doing mixed feeding (breastfeeding and formula feeding). As a working mother, especially in environments where there is no baby-friendly space, balancing work and exclusive breastfeeding can be challenging. Many workplaces, both government and private, do not provide facilities where mothers can breastfeed during work hours, making it difficult to exclusively breastfeed for the recommended six months. This is a reality many of them face. However, you don’t have to give up on exclusive breastfeeding altogether if you’re returning to work. I have some practical tips to help you continue providing your baby with the best nutrition: 📌 Before leaving for work, express enough breast milk and leave it with a trusted caregiver, such as your mother or a daycare provider. 📌 Make sure to store the milk properly in clean, sterilized bottles, and refrigerate it if necessary to keep it fresh for your baby. 📌 While you're away, the caregiver feeds the baby with the expressed milk using a baby cup and baby spoon. 📌 Encourage them to maintain a consistent feeding schedule to ensure your baby receives adequate nutrition. 📌 Once you're home from work, continue to breastfeed your baby directly to strengthen the bond between you and your child. With some planning, you can keep breastfeeding your baby while also managing your work. Let's Support Breastfeeding-Friendly Spaces! Creating an inclusive environment requires a systemic overhaul. A recent Aeroflow Breastpumps survey reveals 83% of working mothers believe there is a stigma attached to moms who pump breast milk at work, an increase from 63% in 2018. These results come nearly two years after the PUMP Act was signed into law to expand access to breastfeeding accommodations, highlighting sustained workplace disparities and challenges for breastfeeding moms. And despite significant improvements in providing space and resources for working mothers to breastfeed over the past six years, 59% are concerned that breastfeeding/pumping could impact their career growth. For Dr. Jessica Madden, MD, IBCLC of Aeroflow Breastpumps, these survey results show there is still a lot of room for improvement in societal acceptance of breastfeeding mothers from employers. We organized an awareness program in Singasandra, Bengaluru, to inform pregnant women about the crucial first 1,000 days of a child's development. From conception to the child's second birthday, this window is essential for shaping cognitive and physical growth. Understanding the significance of each phase within these 1,000 days empowers pregnant women to make informed decisions and provide the best possible care to support their child's optimal development. 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵 The initial phase establishes the foundation for the baby's growth and development. The mother's diet, lifestyle choices, and overall health during pregnancy directly impact the baby's well-being, laying the groundwork for a healthy start to life.
