She stood there, staring at me, as if trying to tell me, "I'm hungry." Without hesitation, I said, "Wait, let me get you something." She didn’t move, just patiently waited at the same spot, as if she understood exactly what I said. I quickly rushed to find something for her. Watching her eat was such a simple yet powerful moment—it reminded me how animals communicate their needs, and how important it is for us to listen and respond. Sometimes, the best therapy is in these small acts of kindness. Feeding those who can’t speak for themselves, and just being present, can be so fulfilling. I’m 40 yrs old and I thought I was weird or not normal for loving to snuggle with my black stuffed cat I named Midnight. ♥️🐱 As a little girl I’ve always loved my stuffed animals but as I grew into adulthood it was “ childish” and “immature” to try and keep holding on to such things. My whole life I’ve been attracted to stuffed animals, at a store if I see some on display I have to stop myself from running up to it and grabbing the one I would take home lol. I was constantly worried what other adults would think seeing a grown woman hug a stuffed animal in public. Especially since I don’t have kids, it’d probably UP the creep factor on me, lol! But recently after going through a lot of personal stress, anxiety, and trauma, I broke down and decided to buy a plushie of my very own and I’m SO HAPPY I did!! 🥰 I feel so comforted and stress-free when I cuddle with my Midnight. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that we can’t push away death until it comes knocking at our door because the consequences are too heavy to bear. We humans are an interesting species. We prepare for everything in life—a trip, a party, a date, even a Facebook post. Yet, the one certain thing, death, we often wing it at the last moment. I didn’t prepare because I thought it was something that would come far away into the future. But one thing about Mrs. Death is that she comes on her terms. Unexpectedly. We can be 100 years old or a newborn puppy that just yesterday touched the grass for the first time in her life. The problem with winging it is that we don’t have the tools, and something intrinsically transformational and precious becomes the most difficult transition in our lives. Now I know better. Now, transitions have changed from “hair-pulling” traumas to peaceful and meaningful moments that prepare my pets and those of my clients for a beautiful start on the other side. 🐾✨ If you’re curious about how to prepare and support pets and their families during this important time, ask me anything.
