Natural wine is a type of wine that is made with minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. This winemaking philosophy emphasizes organic or biodynamic farming practices, eschewing synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. During the fermentation process, natural wines typically use native yeasts rather than commercial ones, and they avoid additives such as sulfites, which are commonly used in conventional winemaking to stabilize the wine and prevent spoilage. The result is a wine that is believed to more authentically express the terroir—the unique combination of climate, soil, and geography of the vineyard. The popularity of natural wine has surged in recent years, driven by a growing consumer interest in sustainability, authenticity, and health. Many wine enthusiasts are drawn to the idea of drinking wine that is free from synthetic chemicals and unnecessary additives. The natural wine movement has also gained traction in the culinary world, with numerous sommeliers and chefs championing its unique flavors and promoting it as a complement to farm-to-table dining. Despite its rising popularity, natural wine remains somewhat controversial, with critics pointing to its variability and the potential for faults due to the lack of preservatives. Nevertheless, its rise reflects a broader trend toward more transparent and ethical food and drink choices. www.Somm.Site #wine #education #courses #articles #innovation #management #marketing #learning #career #digitalmarketing #fyi

Thrilled to have wine on tap from reusable steel kegs included in this extensive guide to being a more sustainable wine drinker from Wine Spectator! "When dining out, wine on tap is a great option. A typical 19.5-liter steel keg holds 26 bottles worth of wine and has a lifespan of up to 30 years, according to Sonoma-based Free Flow Wines, which kegs wine for more than 150 producers, including prestigious names such as Paul Hobbs Winery, Ken Wright Cellars and Ridge Vineyards. GOTHAM PROJECT WINE WORKS LLC, an East Coast wine producer that also imports and kegs overseas brands, estimates that one keg eliminates the use of about 3,000 bottles." Much love to Sixty Vines for all their incredible support in helping show fellow On-Premise operators and consumers what's possible when you think outside of the bottle. #SustainableGastronomyDay 🥗 "Sustainability is the idea that something (e.g. agriculture, fishing or even preparation of food) is done in a way that is not wasteful of our natural resources and can be continued into the future without being detrimental to our environment or health. Sustainable gastronomy, therefore, means cuisine that takes into account where the ingredients are from, how the food is grown and how it gets to our markets and eventually to our plates..." How ethical is your wine? 🍷 #DomaineBousquet was featured alongside other top organic and sustainable wineries from around the world in The Ethical Issue by The Drinks Business. In the organic wine feature, our co-founder & CEO Anne Bousquet made the case for certification when it comes to wineries delivering on their ethical organic promises. “Talking of adopting organic practices while not obtaining certification is like dating someone but not committing to marriage,” she says. "Effectively, this gives wineries a loophole so they can pick and choose when to be organic. It doesn't work like that. Working organically is a commitment; it can mean making tough decisions, but the outcome is absolutely worth the investment. “Better soil health equals better grapes, equals three-year conversion process, rigorous better wines.” Subscribers can read more here: https://lnkd.in/dxZ2zkM3 #RegenerativeOrganic #OrganicWine

🌍 The European Union is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of wine. It accounts for half of the world's production, with three quarters of EU wine produced in Spain, France and Italy. 📝 EU wine policy is as old as the common agricultural policy (CAP). The principal legislation in the sector is the Common Market Organisation (CMO) Regulation, which contains rules on numerous aspects of winemaking. Among other things, these rules govern wine sector product definitions, oenological practices, vine planting authorisation schemes, labelling and presentation, and geographical indications. 🍇 EU wine producers today face numerous challenges. Hit by the closure of the hospitality sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, the sector has also suffered from unfavourable weather conditions due to climate change, which is expected to require substantial changes in the way wine is produced in the future. EU winemakers face increasing competition from other parts of the world, as well as the changing preferences of consumers, who are increasingly opting for wines with less alcohol and wine produced and packaged in sustainable ways. The changing legislative framework at EU and national levels also brings new challenges. 👉 Curious for more? Great to be quoted in Cheers Magazine on wine packaging innovation! Here's the thing: sustainable wine packaging doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's as simple as reimagining what we already have. Take larger formats and lighter glass bottles - small changes that pack a big environmental punch. Or the 1.5L wine bag I discussed in the article - it's lighter, protects the wine brilliantly, and looks great doing it. Win-win-win. The math is simple: lighter packaging = less shipping weight = smaller carbon footprint. And the best part? We can do all this while keeping wine quality exactly where it should be - perfect. Small steps, big impact. That's how we'll make wine more sustainable, one package at a time. https://lnkd.in/gH7fz4N2 #WineSustainability #WineInnovation #WineIndustry
