Had a very in depth conversation with an experienced driver yesterday, he bought up the issue of HGV drivers and pay, which is a sore topic in the transport industry…. We are seeing less and less young drivers in the UK, the thought of long hours with a pay rate that, let’s face it, is not extravagant considering the work and the responsibilities that professional drivers face on a daily basis is no longer appealing…. It’s an ongoing issue with companies not wanting to pay attractive rates, then bumping up a rate for a day by 2-3 fold to get a load out to avoid late delivery costs, spoiling produce in the trailer etc etc. I strongly believe that, like train drivers, HGV drivers are an EXTREMELY important cog in our daily lives and without them, our lives in general would come to a stop…. Fair pay for drivers is a main priority for Dropp.uk, after all, without our drivers, we are not a business! Hope we see changes in the future across the board?? Hope it’s the last thing we have left. Might be time for a full stop but all drivers should put their keys in a box for at least one day and hopefully that will make a change, otherwise this will go from bad to worse as we see it happening already. Prior Covid and Brexit, wasn’t better but now it’s 100 times worse and it’s ongoing , it won’t stop here. Are we waiting for self driving trucks to replace all our hard working HGV drivers ?
