On the 12.11.2024 I had the honor of attending an in-person event at Deloitte's Birmingham office hosted by young professionals. This event was exclusively for females which was something quite important to me. It was also interesting learning more about the tech industry. What I learnt about Deloitte: The firm's culture is very inclusive. There are many opportunities to work with different clients/meet new people. Freedom to own your own work life balance. Certainly joining their ASPIRE/Brightstart apprenticeship can lead to great career progression. You will constantly be learning new things. Why the event being exclusively for females was important to me: Coming from a Middle Eastern background, I have had many uncomfortable conversations (usually from adults) stating that my career aspirations 'aren't good for women'. I was told apprenticeships aren't good and going to university is better (although I keep explaining you recieve a degree upon completing an apprenticeship). 'Being a lawyer isn't good for women, you need to focus on having a family' is something I repeatedly hear, bear in mind I am 19 right now. I certainly believe creating a family is a priceless blessing but having the opportunity of being an educated mother/parent is something my parent's were deprived from. So knowing that apprenticeships can give me an outstanding career progression route without the debt, is something I know I want. Event's such as this makes me so much more confident in my career choice. For example Rufana (one of the panelists), the senior manager in Deloitte's audit team was promoted as a senior manager after returning from her maternity leave. Must I say more. An important quote from her is "opportunities are there go and grab them"! On that note I hope every women who reads this stays confident in her career aspirations because being a women is not a barrier. It's a blessing. Thank you to Deloitte's panelists and Young Professionals for aspiring young women. #Deliotte #Young Professionals

I'm delighted to announce that I have accepted my offer to join KPMG UK as an Audit Apprentice (Glasgow)! Like myself, many are familiar that the journey of seeking apprenticeships can be daunting, filled with highs and lows - all while balancing academic studies. The effort required to keep pushing despite the setbacks is often underestimated. It’s vital that we use rejection as a motivator for our success, never let it hold you back! Today, I stand before you with a simple message: age should never be a barrier to your dreams, ambitions, or aspirations. Too often, society imposes limits based on age, relegating individuals into predefined boxes of what they can or cannot achieve. Age is merely a number, a marker of the passage of time, but it should never define who you are or what you are capable of accomplishing. Whether you are in your teens, twenties, thirties, fifties, or beyond, your potential knows no bounds. Indeed, with age comes wisdom, experience, and a wealth of knowledge that can propel you forward on your journey. Embrace the wisdom gained from years of living, but never let it become an excuse for complacency or inaction. Instead, channel your experiences into fuel for your ambitions. Let them ignite a fire within you, driving you to reach new heights and conquer new challenges. Remember, every setback is an opportunity for growth, and every obstacle is a chance to prove your resilience. Taking this into account, as a 16 year old coming into a “Big 4” financial firm I am fully aware of the challenges that I will face however, every challenge is an opportunity, every setback is a lesson and every success, a milestone on the path to greatness. I will endlessly be grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see where it will take me! #KPMG #Apprentice #Network #Uptree #Apprenticeships Uptree

In the era where degree holders often struggle to find decent-paying jobs, the story of Ben Newton, a 30-year-old who never attended college but earns a staggering Rs 10 crore per annum from Deloitte, is truly remarkable. Ben's Journey - Enrolled in Deloitte's Brightstar apprenticeship program right after high school, 12 years ago. - Grew up in Dorset, with a father who left school at 16 to join the army and a mother who worked as a travel agent. - Was the first in his family to receive a university placement, having received an acceptance letter from the University of Warwick to study maths. However, Ben decided to research graduate schemes and explore post-university career options. During this process, he came across school-leaver schemes and applied to a few, with no intention of leaving university life. This led him to land an interview with Deloitte, and his impatience prompted him to take the job, even though he had initially wanted a similar role after university. The Accomplishment - Promoted to partner at Deloitte last year at the age of 30, earning over £1 million annually. - Became the first partner from Deloitte Brightstart's apprentice program for school dropouts. Lessons Learned 1. Non-traditional Paths - The traditional path of school, college, and then a job is no longer the only option. - Today's modern world offers opportunities for school-goers to start businesses and dropouts to land high-paying jobs. 2. Embracing Impatience - Taking a shortcut that leads to your goals faster can be beneficial. - Don't be afraid to take calculated risks instead of patiently following the longer route. 3. Practical Experience Trump Degrees - Degrees provide theoretical knowledge, but real-life work experience develops practical skills. - Internships during college are crucial for gaining hands-on experience. Ben's story highlights the importance of skills, adaptability, and hands-on experience in the professional world. More companies should consider implementing programs that diversify recruitment beyond traditional university pathways and provide real-world opportunities to school leavers. #entrepeneur #skills #growth

Ben's experience proves that non-traditional paths can lead to exceptional success, and opting out of college does not necessarily close doors but can open new ones. Firms like Deloitte offer robust training and career progression through apprenticeships, making practical experience a valuable asset. In today's dynamic work landscape, the willingness to embrace change and adapt to evolving job requirements is crucial. Skill>>>Degree? The debate continues!💭 But, what if we told you that practical experience gained as skills are often more important than a degree?🤔 Take the story of an individual who begins as an intern and progresses to become a partner with a considerable remuneration. It demonstrates the significance of skills, commitment, and effort over simply possessing a degree. While obtaining a university education can offer valuable knowledge and qualifications, it is not the solitary route to triumph.📚 At the end of the day, it's all about the expertise you bring to the table.👨💼👩💼 What do you think? Today, I attended a virtual event by KPMG, which gave me a fantastic opportunity to learn more about their values, culture, and the incredible support they provide to employees and apprentices. Here are some key takeaways from the session: - KPMG’s Legacy & Impact: With over 150 years of history and 16,000 employees across the UK, KPMG continues to support the UK in an increasingly connected world. - Core Values: Courage and integrity are central to KPMG’s ethos. They invest heavily in their employees’ development and foster a culture where diversity is celebrated, and everyone is valued. - Apprenticeships: I gained valuable insights into KPMG’s apprenticeship programs, which offer pathways into areas such as audit, tax, technology, business services and consulting. Each program is designed to develop transferable skills and provide a smooth transition from school to the corporate world. - Support System: The collaborative environment truly stood out, with teams working shoulder-to-shoulder and providing mentorship at every step. 🔗 Top Tips for Aspiring Applicants: - Focus on your strengths rather than just competencies. - Research KPMG thoroughly to align your application with their values. - Explore their wide range of apprenticeship opportunities, available across the UK. The event was highly informative and gave me a deeper understanding of what KPMG looks for in their people. It was inspiring to hear from current apprentices and see how KPMG helps them achieve their goals in a supportive and inclusive environment. #KPMG #Apprenticeships #Webinar #CareerDevelopment #DiversityAndInclusion #youngprofessionals
