What an incredible point-source carbon capture innovation event we had in Houston! A couple of weeks ago, Darcy Partners brought together over 30 attendees from 22 operators to explore new technologies from six innovators transforming #carboncapture. During the event, each company highlighted their unique approach and applications: ⏩ Entropy Inc: amine-based solvent and heat integration process operating commercially at over 50 ktpa; Glacier Phase 2 reached FID in July 2024. ⏩ ION Clean Energy: Third-gen amine-solvent piloted at Calpine's Los Medanos site, with plans for a >1 Mtpa plant. ⏩ Aqualung Carbon Capture: Amine-based facilitated transport membranes enabling vacuum capture, tested in multiple countries. ⏩ Ardent: Non-amine facilitated transport membrane; 20+ years of industry experience focusing on olefin separation and post-combustion capture. ⏩ Mantel: Molten-salt borate-based sorbent for high-temp capture, to be piloted at a Quebec pulp and paper facility in 2025. ⏩ Mangrove Systems: Digital MRV tool tracking CO₂ in CCUS projects, maximizing revenue via market monitoring. The morning included tech presentations, followed by an operator roundtable in the afternoon, during which users/partners of the presenting innovators (including Calpine, Delek US, Chevron, Shell, and Summit Carbon Solutions) shared their experiences and diligence processes. 📈 This week's #ChartofTheWeek comes from Murray Douglas, our VP Hydrogen and Ammonia Research. Douglas says total contracted hydrogen volumes worldwide are now 8.3 million tons per year (Mtpa). That is only about 6% of total announced #hydrogen capacity of 135 Mtpa, and only about a quarter of that contracted volume has progressed to firm SPAs. He adds: “With more than 300 deals signed, it is increasingly important for developers to identify offtake opportunities and move them towards binding deals that provide the foundation for project financing and development.” Read the full analysis here: https://okt.to/ho8XgE

California headquartered gas containment company Luxfer Gas Cylinders has been awarded a clean technology grant by Alberta Innovates to support the development of a new Type 4, 700 bar hydrogen cylinder in Canada. Via Alberta Innovates’s Hydrogen Centre of Excellence, Luxfer will construct a polymer-lined high pressure hydrogen cylinder, capable of playing a crucial role in the lightweight and high-volume hydrogen storage solution markets. Being developed at Luxfer’s Calgary facility, the system will be able to store gaseous pressure up to 700 bar. The company expects to use its experience in developing Type 3 and 4 high pressure hydrogen cylinders for fuel cell vehicles. Tetramer has been selected to lead a 3 year, $5MM DOE program to reduce the cost of clean hydrogen production along with partners Arkema, Nel Hydrogen and Georgia Institute of Technology. This project seeks to optimize Tetramer's proprietary non-PFSA membrane for performance and durability while reducing costs through manufacturing improvements. "This program represents a significant step forward in demonstrating Tetramer’s PFSA-free ionomer membranes in commercial electrolyzer systems. Success in this effort will support the growth of the hydrogen economy with a stable supply chain of commercially-available ionomer membranes which have a reduced environmental impact and improved performance, ultimately leading to lower cost hydrogen," said Tetramer CEO, Jeff DiMaio The program is funded through the Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office. A new European funded project on green fuels just kicked off! 🌍 HyPowerGT is a milestone project for the European Energy Transition toward a sustainable, safe and affordable energy production: realize an industrialize solution of gas turbine able to burn hydrogen, in any eventual blend with natural gas, while achieving low NOx emissions. Final TRL is 7: a solution ready to the market!
