Does this image define the current state of corporate sustainability?
I am seeing and hearing lots of references to the need for courageous business executives to lead us out of the sustainability slump.
Yes, individual companies must move toward #regenerative business models—and quickly! It's a moral obligation, a necessity to stay ahead of scrutiny and regulation, and when done right, a driver of new value-creation.
But, let’s be honest - if courage is our silver bullet, we’re done for.
Without stronger policies and structural shifts, bold leaders and visionary initiatives will always be undermined by systems that prioritise profit over planet.
We need guardrails that make regenerative solutions non-negotiable, forcing every company to act, not just the courageous few.
Could recognising this reality be a positive outcome of the current slowdown in sustainability progress?

PS - there'll be no corporate #sustainability / #ESG insights roundup from me this week. I'm taking some time with the family but back next week with a 2-week bumper edition.
