KCE Trials is delighted to announce the funding of the BELGICA study: achieving a BEtter outcome through Limiting the GlIoblastoma Clinical tArget volume (KCE-231426). This study seeks to determine whether radiotherapy could be given in a more focused manner, safely reducing the Clinical Target Volume to decrease the volume of brain being irradiated and therefore decrease treatment toxicity, in patients with glioblastoma. The investigators hope this will be as effective while reducing side effects and improving quality of life.   Congratulations to the Sponsor Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc and the Chief Investigator Dr. Dario DI PERRI. It is devoted to the promotion, the development and the coordination of Belgian (academic) research in radiation oncology. The aim is not to replace the already existing (and often larger) structures like EORTC but rather to aim at complementing them in Belgian peculiarities of the academic landscape. It also does not aim to concentrate academic research in the solely academic departments but rather to foster it in all Belgian radiation oncology departments willing to develop a patient-centric, non-industry driven research of quality in Belgium. Focused ultrasound for glioblastoma: Final results from Carthera’s international phase I/II clinical trial in patients with recurrent glioblastoma have been published in Nature Communications. The study enrolled 33 participants across six clinical sites to undergo blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption with the SonoCloud-9 device plus chemotherapy. Dose escalation was safe, and the device provided 90% BBB disruption in a larger volume around the treatment area. A recent study suggests PET/MRI could outshine MRI alone in spotting tiny pituitary tumors linked to Cushing's disease. Researchers observed this in 22 patients, with PET/MRI revealing tumors in all cases, while MRI alone showed them in just half. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Therapeutic Pipeline Update We have recently completed our annual update to the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) therapeutic pipeline overview. This valuable resource provides patients and parents with detailed information on the various therapeutic approaches currently being investigated in clinical trials or approved for DMD. The overview highlights the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, as well as the hurdles that must be overcome before these therapies can be widely applied to patients.
