... they seem to be limiting intelligence to engineering, perpetuating the bias by reshuffling the same pool while engineering skills are less essential, but then again AI doesn't know how to hire a non engineer to build itself, and probably nor do the engineers building it. would be great to see folk exposed to non engineering variables more involved in building AI, #my2cents

Damn, the CEO has his title as “Human Software engineer”. I am gonna change mine too. People are terrified when they saw this. But on a second thought, this might be even better for those who is already a software engineer. Given its current state, it might be able to do the stuffs that we are not happy to do, and we could spend more time on thinking, structuring and communicating. Instead of worrying about AI taking over your job, we should think about how all these could change the way that we work. However, this definitely raises the bar of entry to the industry. It is becoming mind boggling to see the AI evolution! from ML based data interpretation to AI based video generator to a full blown software engineer with Devin! How should computer science students plan their career? Or how should companies think about their future growth and employment strategies?

Worlds first AI Software Engineer is here ! This is probably just a trailer of what’s to come forward in world of AI, tech and how it’s going to affect us. Yesterday, Cognition announced Devin, first AI software engineer. Yes. You read that right. I don’t think Margaret Hamilton would have ever thought that we would have AI software engineers. Devin can take on entire software projects on its own. It can even find the bugs and use print statements to debug and fix it. It’s a step forward in world of AI as to train AI to be a software engineer is not as simple as it sounds. It requires the model to make some very complex decisions that we do on a daily basis as human software engineers, which at times even requires a team. I’m still on fence until I try and impressed with the capabilities at the same time, but this is the future and also a reminder that soft skills are gonna be what differentiates us from AI. I would love to know how adaptable it is with different languages and how efficient it is when it comes to decision making as many times as software engineers we make decisions that prioritize robustness over quickness and vice-versa.
