Lets talk about different roles in the #gamesindustry Animation: #animation in the games industry is all about creating immersion for the players, through lifelike movements of characters, facial expressions, objects and environments. Animators specialise in different areas that can include Character, Creature, Cinematic, and #MoCap They often all combine to bring believable performances and realism to a captivating story. Animators collaborate with other #gamedev professionals across different engines, platforms and tools to create visually stunning and immersive experiences. Here is a quick synopsis of the different types of animators you may come across in the industry - Character Animator Concept artists create initial visual designs, characters, environments, and props. They develop the overall visual style and provide reference material for other artists to follow. Facial Animator Facial animators specialise in animating facial expressions and emotions of game characters. They focus on creating believable facial animations that add depth and realism to characters. Cinematic Animator Cinematic animators work on creating high-quality sequences for games. They animate camera movements, character interactions, and other visual elements to deliver compelling and visually stunning storytelling experiences. Motion Capture (MoCap) Motion capture artists record and capture the movements of real actors or performers using specialised equipment. They clean up and process the captured data to create realistic and lifelike animations for characters and creatures. Creature Animator Creature animators specialise in animating non-human or fantastical creatures in games. They bring creatures like monsters, dragons, and mythical beings to life, capturing their unique movements and behaviours to create incredible animations. Technical Animator Technical animators bridge the gap between animation and technical aspects of game development. They collaborate with programmers to create animation systems, rigging structures, and tools that optimise the animation pipeline and ensure smooth integration with the game engine. UI/UX Animator UI/UX animators create animated elements for the user interface (UI) in games. They design and implement transitions, button effects, and interactive animations that enhance the user experience (UX) and make the UI visually engaging. VFX Animator VFX animators specialise in creating and animating visual effects, such as explosions, particle systems, gunfire and sword swipes. They add dynamic and eye-catching effects to enhance the overall visual quality of the game. Rigger Riggers are responsible for creating skeletal structures and control systems for 3D characters and objects. They set up rigs that enable animators to articulate and manipulate the models effectively, ensuring smooth and realistic animations. I will like to add that in UI positions, studios ask to manage engines more often but using unity or unreal it´s part of tech art. UI it´s only the graphic part and sometimes could be animated if the designer use after effects or similar softwares. (better said a motion designer). It´s like a 3d modeler artist have to make the animation too or any other assignment.
Biggest achievements: Not being afraid of 3D cgi film making 😌🎬🎮 (Probably buying my own mocap suit was the most daring achievement Im proud of!)
First time I see someone call vfx artist vfx animator, especially when it comes to game industry.

1yWait, what about the sound folks? And those community team folks who help the players really get connected with them making the game?
