IMPORTANT - Black People of High Incomes have FAILED the Black Under Class (as a group)! Hi Raymond McGuire (President of Lazard - Investment Bank) High income Black Americans are the ONLY group in America that judges it’s success by how successful it’s able to separate itself from its underclass (in the eyes of other racial groups in America). By the way, great photo of you and your “peers”. Yes, I agree high income Black people have been VERY successful in NYC (and across America). However the overwhelming majority of Black people in NYC are: 1 - on some sort of government welfare (food stamps, housing, vouchers, child care, healthcare, etc). 2 - working at low wage jobs (annual incomes of less than $40,000). 3 - high school dropouts. 4 - lack a college education. 5 - have children attending low performing public schools. 6 - have family members on probation/parole or in jail/prison. I think before [ high income Black people ] in NYC [ pat themself ] on the back, they should look down at the majority of the Black people in NYC. While looking down, ask yourself the question: What have I done to help FREE my people (i.e.: Black people) from economic despair? How have you every used your [ vast wealth ] to help create jobs for Black people in the under class? By the way, the answer is NOT financially supporting the Studio Museum in Harlem. We NEED more [ Black Republicans ] like YOU to invest in Black businesses in Black communities in America. True progress in child and family well-being requires collective effort. No single organization, policy, or program can address the complex challenges families face today. It’s when agencies, community groups, advocates, and families themselves work hand-in-hand that we create pathways to lasting change. When we engage as true partners—listening, learning, and building on each other’s strengths—we amplify our impact. I’ve committed my work to fostering this collaboration so that every child and family has the opportunity to thrive together. Let’s focus on breaking silos and building bridges.

This past Saturday, we came together with families, students, and community members for CYL’s 2024 Family Volunteer Day—and what an incredible day it was! At Montbello Central Park, we joined forces with Denver Parks & Recreation to clean, beautify, and care for a space that brings people together. Together, we: - Gathered eight full trash bags, revitalizing the park. - Cleared 100 feet of invasive vines from fences around the baseball field—a project DPR has been hoping to tackle for years. - Made the park a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space for everyone in the community. But the impact didn’t stop there. Family Volunteer Day wasn’t just about the tasks we completed but about the connections we built. Students from multiple schools and neighborhoods came together, forming new friendships, learning from one another, and discovering what’s possible when we work as a team. We also dove into an important leadership lesson, exploring the difference between prescribing solutions and truly listening to community needs. The result? It was a collaborative day of service that was as much about growth and learning as it was about impact. At CYL, we’re all about empowering young leaders to take action, foster connections, and make a meaningful difference in their communities. Family Volunteer Day reminded us that when we work together, we can create spaces—not just physical but emotional and social—that invite belonging, joy, and togetherness. Interesting work on making local journalism work and interesting comments from Martin Loat OBE about the balance between championing a town or area and scrutinizing what goes on there. I think you can do both. To take a slight change of tack from Owen Wyatt’s excellent video a local outlet might choose to aim a reporter at more business stories rather than court stories. Your coverage changes and starts from a position of covering successes or failures, good or bad. A court reporter is largely only going to turn out ‘bad’ news on whichever scally did something unpleasant that week. Like every outlet ever it’s about decisions made in the morning editorial. It’s easy to send to court because someone’s up for a mugging, and always depends on your traffic but sending to other stories takes a real editorial conviction. A front page or social vid on someone who’s winning in a town might also just stand a chance of bringing back news avoiders. Plus - you’ve always got the option to send your reporter to court if there’s a big case. I did this while co-leading a local news project for Sky years ago. Won a great audience but Sky pulled the plug anyway🤷♂️
