Technically, it was da Vinci who invented the contact lens back in 1508. (Or, at least the concept of a contact lens that he sketched out on paper.) For those who wear contact lenses, your biotechnology was commercialized by Bausch & Lomb in the early 1970s. And oddly, contacts haven't evolved or improved since then. Not because they are a perfect device, but because the industry will not take measured strategic risks and there are few competitors. We've been hearing about lenses for drug delivery and smart contact lenses for at least 15 years. There could be many, many other uses and purposes for them... thoughts?
