Health In Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) has released an essential newsletter today, offering valuable insights into the difficulties summer brings these dedicated workers. Challenges include prolonged exposure to the sun, which can increase the risk of heat stroke, dehydration, and sunburn. Furthermore, with less rain and humidity, the ground and air can become very dry, meaning that outdoor activities such as stockpiling, demolition, groundworks, and vehicle movement all produce an abundance of airborne dust that need to be adequately controlled. Major contractors such as Morgan Sindall and Laing O'Rourke recognise this potential, highlighting NHS projects in their order books. Noteworthy schemes like the £750 million University Hospital Monklands and the £85 million Community Diagnostics Centre in Croydon signify the vast scope and impact of these investments. This week, all eyes are on NHS England as our latest customer of the week. 👀 TCM (namely Jamila Khanom I ACIPD and Aditi Sigar) and NHS England have been working closely with Jacky Dixon, Head of Professional Development, to launch a Leadership Culture Catalysts programme in several ICSs within the NHS. The aim of this programme is to provide senior HR with the guidelines and tools to implement culture change at leadership level. The purpose of NHSE is to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all. Today, I had the privilege of attending the NED (Non-Executive Director) network event for the Northwest, and it was an incredibly insightful experience. Working alongside fellow newly appointed NEDs, Associate NEDs, and more experienced senior NEDs, we collectively addressed the critical challenges and opportunities within NHS governance and finance. The opportunity to collaborate as a team allowed us to delve deep into these pressing issues, especially in an ever-evolving landscape. Governance remains an ongoing priority, and the event reinforced how vital it is to stay agile while ensuring that structures are robust. The financial complexities within the NHS continue to present challenges, particularly in balancing resource allocation with increasing demand. However, today’s discussions highlighted key opportunities to make a significant difference by driving efficiency and accountability through brave leadership. It’s clear that the future of the NHS will rely heavily on effective governance and financial oversight.
