How does Google work in 2024? Search engines are evolving with AI and new algorithms, but the foundations remain the same. Google has 5 main stages: 1. Crawling: Discover and collect web pages 2. Rendering: Analyse how pages look and function 3. Indexing: Organise and store page information 4. Ranking: Determine relevance and order of pages 5. Querying: Display relevant results for user searches I've created the diagram below to show this process. Remember: If Google can't discover your pages, your content won't be crawled or rendered. Pages are discovered through: - The submitted sitemap - Manual page submission - Internal links (i.e. hub pages) If Google can't crawl or render your content, your page won't be indexed. Possible issues: - Network issues - Problems with the server - Not accessible without logging in - Robots.txt code preventing access - Disallowed for crawling by the owner If Google can't index your page, you won't rank in the search results for relevant queries. Possible issues: - Low-quality content - Irrelevant content to the query - Code preventing indexing (noindex) - Design of the site making it difficult If Google doesn't rank your page, you won't show in Google or get any organic traffic. SEO helps your website pass each step. Remember these stages next time you're publishing a page or struggling to rank in Google. #Google2024 #SearchEngineEvolution #DigitalTrends #TechUpdates #AIandSearch #FutureOfSearch

🚨 New Term Alert: "Slop" 🚨 As we navigate our daily digital landscapes, we're all familiar with spam and junk mail. Now, it's time to understand a new digital nuisance: "slop." What is slop? It's AI-generated content that floods the web, mimicking human-created material without truly serving user needs. Unlike interactive AI, slop is static, often misleading, and primarily aims to generate ad revenue and manipulate search rankings. 🔍 Why it matters: Simon Willison, a tech developer, emphasizes that naming this issue—much like we did with spam—helps in combating it. Slop is not just annoying; it can be harmful. For example, inaccuracies in AI-written content about topics like travel or health can lead to real-world consequences. 📉 Impact on Industry: The spread of slop complicates digital marketing and undermines user trust in online content, affecting both consumers and advertisers. 🛡️ Tackling the Issue: Addressing slop will require concerted efforts similar to those that reduced email spam. It calls for greater transparency and accountability in digital content creation. Let's stay informed and advocate for a cleaner, more trustworthy internet. Discuss below how slop might be affecting your industry and share your thoughts on combating this growing issue! #DigitalContent #AI #TechIndustry #OnlineMarketing #UserExperience #Innovation

Remember Bing? Yes, that Bing. Long considered an afterthought in the world of SEO, Bing is suddenly being thrust into the spotlight thanks to OpenAI's ChatGPT web search capabilities. In short: Bing serves as the foundational search index for ChatGPT's SearchGPT. Ergo: if your site isn’t indexed in Bing, you’re invisible in this AI-powered search experience. Does ranking high in Bing influence SearchGPT outputs? Jury’s still out. But here’s a couple of tips: 👉 Double-check your robots.txt file to ensure Bing isn’t blocked. 👉 Log in to Bing Webmaster Tools and confirm your site’s visibility. We’re still in the early days of AI-driven search, but as a longtime search marketing guy, I’m thrilled to see where this is heading. AI is changing search—make sure you’re ready. #realestate #brokerage #proptech #CRE #realestatebrokerage #AISearch
