This initiative builds upon Data Abyss's PRC Defense Laboratories Tracker, which now identifies over 190 defense-focused labs across PRC institutions. These labs, often categorized as national defense science and technology key laboratories, national defense key discipline laboratories, or Ministry of Education national defense labs, frequently mask their military connections with misleading English translations. These tools go beyond surface-level names, meticulously uncovering these labs’ true affiliations and defense-oriented purposes. By leveraging the PRC Defense Laboratories Tracker, this project provides unparalleled transparency into PRC’s defense research infrastructure, ensuring up-to-date and accurate insights. My interest in this area is related to COVID origin… Wuhan laboratories linked to lab leak investigation and their collaborators abroad. These are all deliberately Dual Use Research of Concern…where the dual uses are risky Virology research at best and clandestine Offensive Biological Weapons Programs at worst. Either way the collaborating institutes abroad all usually viscerally deny any DURC link to their work.
