🤖 ROBOTIC SURGERY: Are you ready for this change? New week, fresh start – that's what Mondays are all about, right? So today let's talk about something that can give eneryone a fresh needed perspective on - Robotic Surgery. Picture this: You are in an operating room and instead of doctors and surgeons, you see robots - Robots taking charge in the operating room. How would you feel/react? Since a year or more, I've been noticing banners and billboards popping up everywhere, showing how robots are taking over the operating room. From heart transplants to knee replacements, these machines are doing it all! But here's the thing: are we ready for this CHANGE? Can we trust our lives, or the lives of our loved ones, with a machine? It's a question worth pondering. Personally, I've always placed my trust in human doctors. This transition to robotic surgery isn't exactly a walk in the park for me. But maybe some insights from you all could help shift my perspective. Let's talk about it! Current robotics translate fine motion from hands to end-effectors, and articulate. The ability to rest your wrists/forearms on a padded console (thus mitigating intention tremor) and to articulate end-effectors allows: - Access to tissue planes that do not fit the angle-of-attack of straight sticks - Helps avoids internal collisions, otherwise known as "sword-fighting" in the early days of lap surgery - Allows the surgeon to straddle the patient so they are not hunched over like Quasimodo, which is how straight Lap Prostate was originally done. For many surgeries the surgeon has to be on both sides to approach certain anatomical tissue planes. Although AI-assistance all sounds good, and maybe it will be, I kinda wonder if it will go the way of natural orifice surgery from years ago, which was a giant bust; we'll see. But, as long as you're at a console interface, the most enabling capability would have to be realtime responsive deep tissue visualization using transmitted/reflected alternative wavelengths, acoustic imaging, spectral identification, OCT, etc. The merging of real time digital pathology and surgical imaging is an ideal place for vision and surgery to meaningfully combine.

Sony's New Tech Assists in more precise Robotic Surgery They've created a surgical robot that helps doctors with super-precise operations on tiny veins and nerves. Imagine tools so small they can work on a corn kernel (they actually did this in a test!). This robot is like an extra pair of super steady hands for surgeons. It copies their movements exactly and even switches tools automatically, saving time during surgery. ⏱️ This could pave the way for AI to play a bigger role in delicate surgeries in the future. While I'm not sure I'm ready for a robot surgeon just yet, having AI help out under a doctor's watchful eye sounds pretty cool! What do you think?
