Episode Title: 🇬🇧Pioneering Women Transformed the Beautiful Game of Football🇬🇧 Today on Heads Talk, we are honoured to feature a remarkable & highly respected guest for the #HTSportsSeries. Through my research, I have been impressed by her achievements, especially during a time when women's football was not as popular or welcomed as it is today. She played a pivotal role in elevating the game to its current stature, truly a visionary & deservedly recognised for her 32-year contribution to the game. Barclays Women's Super League Hall of Fame Inductee #HallOfFame Kelly Simmons OBE, who recently took up the role of The Football Association Director of Women’s Professional Game, has been pivotal in transforming professional women’s football in England. She masterminded the first FA Women’s Professional Game Strategy, which has driven the growth of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship, culminating in record-breaking sponsorship & media rights deals for women’s football. Previously, as The FA Director of Development, she oversaw the implementation of a £200 million, 4-year investment programme into children’s & grassroots football. The attendance of men at women's football games was discussed. I invite contributions in the comments on this question: As a man, have you attended a women's football game? Happy International Women's Day to all the amazing women in my life! I'm sharing one last interview of my series Women in Sports vlogs, and it is my interview. I asked my friend and collegue Paul Warloski to interview me from a male perspective. My goal was to summarize and bring forth some of the messages I heard during my 10 interviews with 13 incredible women in February. I was touched by the stories I heard, and it took me time to digest and form a direction I wanted to take the project from here. During my interview, I cite some of the messages I heard, but it is by far not all. I feel like I only scratched the surface highlighting barriers that women face in sports. I give some actionable steps that ANYONE and EVERYONE can take to support women in sports. If we look at participation numbers alone, and draw conclusions that women are not interested, we miss the mark completely. We, as partners, NEED to ASK THE QUESTIONS: Why are not women participating in sports? What are the barriers and challenges that women face? These interviews are a start to understand why women are not showing up, and what we can do to change sports so we can welcome and include women in sports. I welcome and invite all the men in my network to sign up for my Women in Sports newsletter where I send each interview once a week to your inbox, so you can enjoy and start understanding what women face in different roles in sports. 🤸♀️ https://lnkd.in/gWY3wqYc If you are in the sports business in any way, I think you will gain a lot more perspective on how you can make your sports business flourish if you include women the way women want to be included. Once again women are making history in the sports world. For the first time ever, a Serie A match had an all-female referee team. The recent match between Inter Milan and Torino was about more than just the score… (which was a 2-0 win to Inter 👀) But, it was another milestone met for women in the industry. Led by Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi. ↳ Assisted by Tiziana Trasciatti and Francesca Di Monte. This match shows one of the many positive changes we are seeing happen in sports. As more women are being put in roles that were once closed off to them. Changes like these are: 🙌🏾 Re-shaping the future for women in sports. 🙌🏾 Expanding opportunities for women in sports. 🙌🏾 Offering women the recognition they deserve in sports. I hope that changes like these are inspiring young girls. Showing them that they are not only capable… But they belong on the field too. Hopefully, these changes for the better continue.

Whilst we celebrate #internationalwomensday2024 – The INTERNATIONAL SPORTS CONVENTION each year present our “data” on gender diversity. Data does not lie and tells the facts and where we are. At the International Sports Convention we have a responsibility to ensure that the meeting place for the Business is Sport, taking place on March 20-21 is inclusive. One key barometer is whose speaking at this year’s event. Of the 68 speakers; 31 are women. 45% of our speakers are women. That’s where we are. A 14% increase from last year but still 5 percent short for a minimum 50% plus. We will be publishing our full EDI data at the end of April. Nigel Fletcher, CEO “Benchmark data gives a clear and transparent picture of where we are and what we need to do. We have been monitoring gender diversity in terms of speakers and delegates since 2018 and whilst our goal was 50% in 2023 in terms of speakers + delegates, we still have some way to go but step by step we are ensuring the meeting place for the Business of Sport is inclusive for everyone”. On day 1 at the International Sports Convention 2024 we have three panels specifically on women’s sport moderated by Christina Macfarlane, CNN 👇🏿 https://lnkd.in/e3wmfKsY

I joined the Women's Sport Trust webinar this morning to hear the data from their latest visibility research. This data is so important for unlocking the power of women's sport. Here were my main takeaways... - Only 5 EPL clubs had more TikTok Views than Chelsea Women in September and Chelsea Women had more views than any of the WNBA teams - Sunderland Women vs Newcastle United Women had 93K views on Youtube, 43% of the total YT views for live streamed matches in weeks 1-6 of the Women's Championship - Team GB's female athletes dominated TikTok views at Paris 2024. Lina Nielsen had the most views and highest engagement of all Team GB athletes on Tik Tok. - Huge opportunities exist for women’s sport on streaming platforms like YouTube and not just on smart phones. TV set viewing accounts for 40%+ of total YouTube reach in the UK. Go and download the full report on the Women's Sport Trust website.

It's great to see how much women's sport has come into its own and increased investment is helping it to reach greater audiences. The industry can still tap into even more opportunities to support its continued growth and PwC UK's Global Sports Survey looks at exactly what that is.
