Can your business confidently identify where all your data resides across your organisation? At the 2023 IAPP ANZ Summit, it was commonly identified that many businesses often retain data longer than their intended purpose. This hoarding of large and old data puts businesses at greater risk in the event of a breach. With many businesses unable to identify where these datasets reside, the implementation of comprehensive data governance becomes increasingly evident. Businesses need to familiarise themselves with the concept of data minimalisation, by actively managing their data and ensuring it isn’t held onto past its intended purpose.
