The Association of National Advertisers and Mailing Organizations Urge the Postal Regulatory Commission to Cease Surcharge and Twice Yearly Postage Rate Increases A group of industry organizations, including the ANA, filed comments before the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) on its statutory review of the rate-setting process that is currently underway. These organizations depend upon universal delivery and reasonable rates. The comments focused on two key issues, the density surcharge and the frequency of postage rate increases. The group advised the PRC that since the PRC granted additional rate authority to the USPS in 2020, its customers have endured “punitive rate increases” and “drastic reductions in service quality.” The mailing leaders argued against the density surcharge which accelerated the decline of mail volume and eliminated any incentive for the USPS to right size its workforce in response to changes in mail volume. (Density rate authority means rate authority that is available to all classes to address the effects of decreases in density of mail.) Further, with regard to the twice-yearly postal hikes, the organizations stress that no other postal service in the world raises rates on customers twice per year. In fact, this “exacerbates the compounding effect of rate increases and burdens mail customers and their suppliers with implementation cost” and undermines new mail volume. The organizations call for an end to the density surcharge and to limit rate increases to once per year v. twice per year. The ANA will update members on the PRC’s decision on the rate-setting process once released.

Some United States Postal Service rates will increase in January. USPS has announced rate changes effective January 19, 2025, for USPS Ground Advantage, Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail and Parcel Select. We've posted charts comparing current rates (with holiday surcharges) to the new rates announced for January, at https://lnkd.in/gajkjeH5 Regular First Class Mail will NOT see an increase. Forever stamps will remain at 73 cents. There will also be no increases for First Class Presort, Marketing Mail, Periodicals or Bound Printed Matter. After these changes in January, no other changes are anticipated until July.

The cost of a US stamp could hit $.73 come July if the Postal Regulatory Commission approves the US Postal Service’s request for the 7.4% increase. If you feel that it seems the price for stamps is rising rather quickly, you would be correct. From 2010 to 2020 stamp prices rose seven times and if the Postal Regulatory Commission approves this increase, it would be the sixth time in just four years. The US Postal Service did not give any specific reasons as to why they need to raise the price of a stamp, all they said was the price increase is necessary because of the rising cost for delivering mail. That sounds rather weak to me. If I had to speculate why, I think the price of mail is going up because the volume is declining but the service is still costing the same to get less mail to your home. However, when I open my mailbox every day, there still seems to be quite a bit of mail there. Could it be the post office is mismanaging their operation? #uspostalservice #stampprice #inflation #postalservice #mailing #mail #usstamp #economy #useconomy

On Friday, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will not raise prices in January 2025 for Market Dominant products, which includes First-Class mail. This announcement comes after Baldwin called out USPS leadership for unsustainable price hikes and poor service. “Wisconsinites rely on the USPS to run their businesses, pay their bills, and communicate with loved ones,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “The proposed price hikes would have burdened hard working Wisconsinites, and I’m pleased to see they heeded my calls and will not be raising the price of stamps at the postal counter. I will continue to push the USPS leadership to halt rate increases, especially as Wisconsin families and small businesses continue to be hurt by unprecedented mail delivery delays.” Senator Baldwin has repeatedly called on the USPS to address rate hikes and delays Wisconsinites are experiencing. Last week, Senator Baldwin called on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to immediately address costly mail delays suffered by Wisconsin newspapers that rely on the USPS. These delays have already resulted in lost revenue, customer complaints, and canceled subscriptions. In April, after USPS announced the price increase for First Class Mail stamps, Senator Baldwin questioned DeJoy’s leadership, which has resulted in higher prices for Americans and worse service. Despite the USPS enacting their new “Delivering for America” plan – which they promised would modernize and transform the Postal Service – customers continue to experience poor customer service and significant mail delays, including for rural newspaper delivery. #wisconsin

Royal Mail's proposed cuts to second-class deliveries could reduce service to just two or three days a week, drastically limiting the accessibility of affordable postage. At the same time, first-class stamp prices have soared by an eye-watering 117% since 2021, with repeated above-inflation hikes that show no signs of slowing. For an industry built on the joy of sending and receiving cards, this combination of rising costs and reduced service is deeply concerning - not just for businesses like ours, but for anyone who loves the tradition of sending thoughtful messages through the post. Greeting cards rely on an affordable, reliable postal service to stay accessible for everyone. That's why we're supporting a petition launched by the The UK Greeting Card Association calling for: ✉️ Parliamentary scrutiny of any changes to the Universal Service Obligation (USO) ✉️ Regulation of first-class stamp prices to prevent sky-high increases ✉️ Royal Mail to meet performance delivery targets before making any cuts The future of our industry and the ability for people to send cards that brighten someone's day, depends on action now. Please join us in calling for change by signing the petition via the link below or by scanning the QR code. Together, we can protect the UK's postal service and keep card-sending affordable for all. https://lnkd.in/eu2K2jJf
