Getting individual contributors to input data into record systems is super hard. Finding the right number of mandatory fields is a tricky skill that isn’t often taught. Too many fields distract from actual work, while too few don’t provide enough data for analysis and improvement. This issue is common with CRMs but isn’t discussed enough for other systems. In large companies, more hierarchy means more fields to input because management layers need the data for analysis. This often leaves folks with mandatory fields they don't understand why they need to input. They lose motivation when their work becomes predominantly data entry 😥 In a mid-sized company, I saw a Sales Executive trained with this hierarchical mindset, create too many processes requiring data input. Eventually, the reps stopped entering data altogether. Besides striving to keep your org flat as possible, I will suggest a solution in a future post to help everyone understand the purpose of each mandatory field. #datainput #management #flatorganization
