Kicking off the week after half-term with a little reminder… The perfect Accountant doesn’t exist! If they’re an 80% fit for the position and your team, hire them. The other 20%? That’s where training, development, growth, and hiring for attitude comes into it. 🙌 If you’re holding out for the "perfect" Accountant, remember — it’s about potential, not perfection. P.S. Hope everyone has a great first week back after half-term… who feels like they need a holiday to recover from the holiday? 😂 #FinanceLeadership #HiringTips #Accountancy #DevelopmentOverPerfection

I have been in the recruiting world for 26 years with a focus on Contract and Contract to Hire roles in Accounting and Finance. In that time, I have placed thousands of candidates, several of them multiple times on long-term projects. What is it that has these Accountants be successful working Contract? Here are top 3 things that Accountants do to hit the 🎯 bullseye 🎯 on being a great consultant: 🎯 #1 Be flexible: If I were to say the #1 thing that has a contractor be successful, it is their ability to be FLEXIBLE! This crosses over many areas…in what they do, in the industry they work in, in the pay they receive, in the personality types of people they can work with! The more flexible someone is, the more opportunities available to them! And, if you are flexible, they tend to keep you longer and will oftentimes try to find additional projects. 🎯 #2 Have a Positive Attitude: This is incredibly important because, as a contractor, you are almost always walking into some sort of mess. And if you are walking into a mess, often the morale and communication are not great. This is where you, as the consultant, can make a SIGNIFICANT impact! Sometimes all it takes is new blood from the outside bringing a glimmer of hope and a renewed energy to get everyone pumped back up! It is also critical to ask how you can help (because that is a key part of what you are brought in to do). Sometimes the project is not ready for you yet and you find you have downtime. As long as you are checking in to make sure they know you are eager to help when they are ready, spend time advancing your skills so that you can deliver on this and future projects. Focus on Excel or current accounting updates. Encouraging others and maintaining a positive attitude goes a long way in any project! 🎯 #3 Listen to the client and learn their way: It is easy to walk into a situation and become critical. Before you go making any changes on a project, master their way! Then, when you become an expert, you can start sharing suggestions. There are projects that you walk into that don’t want any changes made to their processes, no matter how outdated their current processes may be. It is important to honor their wishes! At Bright!Tax, we’ve said goodbye to timesheets and embraced trust and flexibility instead. 👋 Here’s why: • We focus on results, not hours clocked. • Our team has the freedom to work from anywhere. • There’s nothing more ironic than logging “time tracking” on a timesheet! We believe trust and flexibility lead to better work—and happier team members. Fellow accountants, have you left timesheets behind? How does swapping time tracking for results tracking sound? We're hiring! Check out all of our open roles here: https://hubs.ly/Q02PfxsH0 #UStax #accounting #results Bright!Tax #hiring

I had an interesting conversation with a client yesterday while on-boarding a new role. They knew that the skillset for this particular position is broad and that ticking off everything on their wishlist might be tough. In their own words, “we’re going to have to be comfortable taking a punt on someone.” So, we drilled down to the top 3 skills I’ll be focusing on to find the ideal Accountant: 1️⃣ Communication, 2️⃣ Financial Accounting, & 3️⃣ Project Management. If I can find someone with a blend of these skills and the right attitude, they’re willing to take that punt! I love working with hiring managers who understand that the perfect skillset might not always be out there. They know they may need to compromise and hire for attitude, alongside technical skills that can be developed. What are your thoughts on this? #HiringForAttitude #FinanceRecruitment #Onboarding #Accountants
