At ECREA 2024 Stine Lomborg outlined how critical data consciousness may be cultivated through three approaches: interviews and data contributions, visualizations, and workshops imagining the future of data. We aim to understand what it means for individuals to lead a meaningful datafied life and to develop societal norms regarding the appropriate flow of data. This requires an understanding of infrastructure, experience, and agency on specific contexts.

It was a truly inspiring day filled with insightful discussions, expert presentations, and collaborative workshops. The final roundtable underscored the importance of strategic policy intelligence, recognizing that traditional equilibrium-based approaches are insufficient in a world characterized by rapid technological and societal shifts. System Dynamics proved to be a powerful tool for collaborative policymaking, as we explored multi-level scenarios on a Miro board, delving into the future of EU, national, and regional policies. This powerful tool can help us understand complex systems, identify feedback loops, and simulate the impact of different policy interventions, also paired with other techniques, such as Agent-Based Modelling. A special thanks to the creators of the POLYTRoPOS model, a valuable work-in-progress tool for ex-ante evaluation of transformative innovation policies. I eagerly anticipate its future development.
