President Biden budget for 2025 limits Pell Grants to proprietary sector. So I checked if I could become a commercial pilot by going to public universities. Public Unis offer this training as part of a Bachelors degree program. Annual Costs at Auburn - $50,382; Purdue - $48,000 and so on. So around $200,000 and at least 4 years. A Bachelors is not required to be a commercial pilot. Only hours and ratings on the specific types of aircraft. Total cost for entire CPL rating - $80,000 and potentially have the license in 18 months. Airlines will pay for costs also in many cases. Flight students at a Part 141 University Schools get 2 of everything. Two sets of costs (tuition & flight), two sets of classes (regular college classes & flight blocks, instructor time) 2 sets of graduation requirements (Credit hours/classes & Flight certifications) and 2 sets of advisors and instructors (academic & flight). But they typically get zero real breaks from both. Flight certifications don't follow a term or semester format, it's all individual progress, testing, and flying at your own pace. The less frequently you use the skills, the more time you need to practice, the slower you progress, and the more you spend on flights, on average. Even when school is out and exams are done Carter Zollweg is still studying and flying! Luckily, he will have a week at home between Christmas and New Years! Up up and away for today's flight. Over 1/2 way done with Instrument Rating modules!
