Mintec's Tropical Research Services cocoa expert examines the structural supply-side issues affecting #cocoa crops. They analyze how these factors may impact prices and their subsequent effects on farmers. Typically, prices are determined at the start of the season. However, the current pricing mechanism may not sufficiently benefit farmers, thus discouraging initiatives for increased production or essential tree replacements vital for ensuring future crop health. https://hubs.ly/Q02pPLyR0 #chocolate

In Episode Four of the “How to Do It” Series Two, we will be discovering the power of seedling treatment. On my farms, we would never plant trays of vegetable seedlings or bagged tree seedlings without applying minerals, microbes, and natural biostimulants. This is the perfect opportunity to set the plant up for a healthy, vigorous, disease-free life. Through experience, we have found that the best mineral-based biostimulant blend for this purpose is the NTS product Root and Shoot. This liquid features a broad spectrum of major and minor minerals supported and enhanced with humates, kelp, amino acids, vitamins, and plant growth promotants. This tool delivers the mineral nutrition component of a successful seedling treatment. The microbial component involves a combination of Platform and Bio-N. This duo involves the super productive synergy between Mycorrhizal fungi and Azotobacter. There are several components to this synergy but the most important involves AMF supplying soluble phosphate to create ATP, the battery that drives the enzymatic harvesting of nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil. The mycorrhizal fungi is rewarded with some of that harvested nitrogen and that helps sponsor the protein required to create that vast network of hyphae. Platform, also contains the versatile problem solver, Trichoderma along with a blend of other potent microorganisms including bacillus. I hope this short video will inspire you to give your seedlings the best possible start and set them up for a productive life. https://buff.ly/49wm1yP #farming #food #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #organic #nutrientdense #agriculture #sustainability #permaculture #farmtotable #training #nutrition #farming #management #workshop #graemesait #freerange #aussiefarmers #aussieag #farmlife #australianagriculture #allthingsagriculture #sustainablefarming #health #howtodoit

Mylabris pustulata (Blister Beetle) in Your Natural Farm: Key Takeaways Mylabris pustulata, or blister beetles, are common agricultural pests that can cause significant damage to crops. Here are some key takeaways for natural farmers dealing with these insects: Understanding the Threat Damage: Blister beetles feed on leaves, flowers, and pods of various plants. Heavy infestations can lead to reduced yields and plant death. Toxicity: These beetles produce cantharidin, a toxic substance that can cause skin irritation, blistering, and even internal damage if ingested. Crop Preferences: Blister beetles often target crops like potatoes, tomatoes, beans, and alfalfa. Natural Farming Strategies Crop Rotation: Rotating crops can disrupt the life cycle of blister beetles and prevent heavy infestations. Companion Planting: Certain plants, like marigolds or garlic, can repel blister beetles. Physical Control: Handpicking or using traps can be effective for small infestations. Beneficial Insects: Encourage natural predators like birds, lacewings, and parasitic wasps that prey on blister beetles. Cultural Practices: Maintain good field hygiene, avoid over-fertilization, and provide adequate irrigation to promote healthy plant growth. Precautions for Farmers Personal Safety: Wear protective clothing, gloves, and eye protection when handling blister beetles. Avoid Ingestion: Never eat or consume any part of a plant that may have been infested with blister beetles. Proper Disposal: If you need to dispose of dead or captured beetles, do so carefully to avoid contact with their toxic secretions. Remember: While blister beetles can be a nuisance, they are a natural part of the agricultural ecosystem. By implementing sustainable and natural farming practices, you can manage their populations effectively without resorting to harmful chemicals. Would you like to know more about specific natural pest control methods or other agricultural challenges? https://lnkd.in/gH7DPm-a

Passion Yellow is a 45-micron thick, specifically engineered oxygen barrier film scientifically proven to protect forage and grains from oxygen one thousand times more effectively than traditional plastic covers. Passion Yellow barrier film blocks oxygen from penetrating, allowing high-quality fermentation of the feed and reducing surface spoilage of the pile or bunker. Why use it? 🐂 Passion Yellow minimises feed loss and protects & returns producer investments in feed inputs on dairy farms. 🐂 The spoilage fed to dairy herds results in depressed dry matter intake and potential rumen damage, which deprives cows of essential nutrients needed for milk production. 🐂 Healthy rumen function begins with the feed that provides energy, protein, minerals and vitamins - all of which Passion Yellow oxygen barrier protects With less spoiled feed to pitch, you can save labour, which can be used in other areas of your business. Passion Yellow is lightweight, strong, stretchy, flexible and clingy; it is easy to use and cost-effective. #silage #silagecovers #farming

Tobacco cultivation requires large amounts of #fertilizer because #tobacco plants absorb more nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium than other major food and cash crops. #Soils that have been used to grow tobacco lack the necessary nutrients for food crops, making it difficult to interplant and rotate crops. Tobacco takes up to nine months to mature, so it is difficult for tobacco farmers to grow food crops in the same year. Therefore, increasing yield is the primary concern for tobacco farmers. We are pleased that our products can significantly help tobacco farmers increase their #yield and income. Their smiles are our greatest reward. #NPK #Biostimulant #yield_up #seaweed_extract #foliar_fertilizer #liquid_fertilizer https://lnkd.in/gxkxmGXs

Formula weights in NE fell 13 pounds last week, to the lowest value in 7 weeks, but remain well above last year. Typically weights do not bottom for another 8 weeks or so, and the volume of cattle traded via formulas typically goes higher in NE. What are the chances weights do not follow seasonal tendencies and go higher now through the end of the year? #nebraska #cattle #beef #oatt

(USA Week #15, ending April 12th) #producemarketupdate Wind challenges golfers and growers Alike [AG: Left in the Dust - Australia's Fresh Produce Market Information & Data Deficit] ProduceIQ Index: $1.31/pound, flat over prior week Week #15, ending April 12th, brought challenges for both golfers at The Masters and fresh produce growers across the US, as strong winds swept through growing regions on the West Coast and Southeast. The blustery conditions affected the supply of Valencia and Navel ORANGES , causing low fruit set and keeping prices high. BLUEBERRY prices rose by 17% over the previous week due to low volume from domestic and foreign growers. Florida growers are optimistic about the upcoming season, with expectations of a larger harvest compared to last year. STRAWBERRY markets continue to face volatility due to repeated rain events in California, pushing prices to record-breaking levels. WATERMELON prices have decreased for the third consecutive week as the import season comes to a close and domestic production ramps up, though demand remains strong. - Navel oranges from the West (72ct) dip to $25 yet remain higher priced than any other year. - Blueberries in East (12 1pt clamshells; large size) reach peak seasonal pricing, $44. - Eastern Seedless Watermelon (24" bins) remain at record prices, $0.58. Available product is still hard to find. https://lnkd.in/gTx3HQAa Visualize USDA data with ease (registration required which is free) https://lnkd.in/gryu5s3P [AG: ProduceIQ Australia? There is a critical deficiency in timely, comprehensive and freely available market information for our horticultural commodities in Australia, leaving our growers uninformed and vulnerable. Despite the presence of numerous fresh produce industry representatives, bodies, state and federal government departments, the lack of regular updates severely hampers growers' ability to make informed decisions. This absence of meaningful communication not only threatens the profitability, food security and sustainability of our fresh produce industry but also raises concerns about the commitment of these fresh produce representative organisations and government departments. This information gap benefits our post-farm gate operators enabling them to exploit growers' ignorance to maximize their profits. Consequently, growers struggle with low returns and unsustainable farm gate prices, pushing many to the brink of bankruptcy or exit from the industry. While post-farm gate operators thrive, growers face an unfair imbalance. This situation not only harms growers, who are the backbone of our industry, but also calls into question the dedication of our fresh produce industry representatives to advocate for growers' interests and address these pressing issues effectively.] -----
