If you've been asking yourself: ❓What is clean flexibility? ❓Why do we need it for renewables growth? ❓What's the status of battery storage and demand side flexibility in the EU? ❓What policies do we need for unlocking clean flex? Then we have answers for you! 👉 https://lnkd.in/gh7jBBvM Clean flex is key to unlocking an efficient system backed by #wind and #solar, and phasing-out #fossil power, so it's time to take it seriously
To maintain grid stability and avoid blackouts, demand and supply must align continuously. Clean flexibility encompasses solutions that balance the grid when weather-dependent sources like wind and solar mismatch electricity demand. This approach ensures excess clean energy is stored, relocated, or synced with consumption, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels used for grid balance. It's true... there is no (energy) transition without transmission. Our analysis in the National Transmission Planning Study found accelerating transmission deployment beyond historical rates can reduce power system CO2 emissions by billions of metric tons through 2050. In our modeled future grids, transmission expansion takes place across the country, while the most expansion takes place in the central wind belt getting clean energy where it needs to be. 📰 As argued by EPC's Brooke Moore and Simon Dekeyrel in their commentary, "recent policy endeavours, such as the Green Deal Industrial Plan, the European Wind Power Action Plan, and the Grids Action Plan, signal the EU’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, swift and fair shift away from fossil fuels that is aligned with the strategic vision of the Green Deal. However, effective implementation of these measures will now be paramount to overcoming the challenges looming over the EU’s clean energy transition." Read it here 👇 https://buff.ly/4bb0LOy

A day filled with collective insights that were widely positive, and yet still in agreement that speed is the real concern when it comes to advancing the clean energy transition. Ten years ago fossil fuel compromised 82% of the energy mix…today 80% - this simply doesn’t feel like enough action to match the ambition and the 2050 targets right around the corner. Excited to hear more tomorrow about the topic on everyone’s mind - the great grid transition - from Rohan Kelkar and fellow panelists. In his recent article with FT, Rohan frames up the topic and what it will take to power the new energy landscape. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ghfbdCnG #FTEnergy

There's been a lot of discussion about Australia's energy future in recent weeks. While the opinions on 'silver bullet' solutions may differ, what can be agreed upon is that we need to take action. Now. With the warming climate sending our energy needs soaring and coal-fired power stations on the decline, policy makers are challenged with finding clean, reliable energy sources for the future that help balance supply and demand on the grid. Enter Virtual Power Plants. The solution goes beyond solar, beyond installing a battery. A solar + battery system integrated into a Virtual Power Plant is what will really move the dial when it comes to the clean energy transition.
