“Look beneath the surface; let not the several quality of a thing nor its worth escape thee.” Marcus Aurelius Des was facing a dilemma. He was on the verge of launching his hotel online but an unexpected discovery had put the project on pause. ⏸️ I had been booked to shoot the interiors, but a week before I was due to turn up, he called to ask for my thoughts. 💭 When he bought the hotel, it needed only cosmetic changes. In fact, the entrance hall had a newish carpet fitted but when a chance remark from a visiting friend prompted a look underneath, he discovered a period tiled floor, probably original but in a sorry state. Did I think it was worth the extra time and expense to have it cleaned and repaired? 🪥🧽 To help him come to a decision, I sent him a few examples of similar properties I’d photographed. If the floor could be brought up to standard it could have a real wow factor. Des bit the bullet and got an expert in to restore it to its former glory. ✨ He’s glad he did as there is now a stunning entrance hall to greet guests and this image is the first thing visitors to his website will see. Definitely a floor worth showing off
Maybe it’s just me but I found the sudden switch from Marcus Aurelius to Des has got a dilemma quite amusing. Like suddenly switching from Gladiator to Eastenders.😂 anyway your talents no doubt saved the day once again. Lovely photo as always.
Well worth the expense and a great long term investment as Des won’t need to pay for carpet cleaning or replacement in the future.
Oh wow - that is impressive. Well worth the investment for a first impression like that. Great image to show it off.
That's an amazing floor, well worth the work to restore it.
Good advice as well as a great photographer!
Wow I love love love this! what a great shot of an amazing floor! 😍
Thought-provoking
It's great when owners restore beautiful traditional features like this floor. It shows real love and attention for their properties!

7moAlways look under the carpets! We had (guess what) lovely parquet under ours. BUT (and this is tragic) we learnt the hard way. The electrician doing the rewire rang me at work to ask if he was ok cutting through the "floorboards" and I stupidly said yes. It was only later that day when my husband came back, we found the parquet. Hacked to death! We still have the original in our hallway, but the landing had to get a new carpet. Sadly. I love these period tiles, absolutely glorious!
