Tokenized RWAs have the potential to make assets more liquid, accessible and efficient while enhancing transparency, security and global reach. Representing RWAs on the blockchain — such as real estate, private equity and venture investments, fine art and collectibles, physical commodities like gold, fixed income instruments, intellectual property assets and even stocks and equities — can transform the way ownership of assets is recorded and enable new functions.

The pertinent query is not whether blockchain will supplant clearinghouses but, rather, when this transition will occur. A closely related inquiry is whether clearinghouses will seamlessly evolve into blockchains. The challenge has been the inability of smart contracts to traverse blockchain ecosystem boundaries, making Delivery versus Payment (DVP) between distinct blockchains problematic. Complex Rube Goldberg-style solutions exist but, the amalgamation of complexity and smart contracts has proven precarious, exemplified by the $2 billion in bridge hacks. The Accumulate team, under the leadership of Paul Snow, has successfully devised a straightforward and trustless solution for DVP between different chains.
