This is a powerful article rawly exposing what it is like to live with rare, chronic and invisible diseases in Canadian healthcare. Gallant cites a most painful observation that dignity and access to care rarely coexist. Sadly I relate to this as a patient myself. Patients are often forced to their breaking point to access care, having to beg, plead, persuade, convince, negotiate, wait, and endlessly hope to access the care they so desperately need in a timely way. On the heels of Invisible Disabilities Week #idw2024 and Canadian Patient Safety Week #cpsw2024 we NEED to do better. For our patients, our care partners and our providers. Being unable to access care for the host of reasons Gallant discusses here erodes trust in the system, and causes unnecessary psychological harm to both patients and providers. While there are many things to be grateful for in Canadian healthcare, it is time for systemic solutions to change the narrative here and improve patient experience and psychological safety for those living with rare, chronic and invisible diseases. We MUST do better. #raredisease #chronicillness #invisibledisability #patientexperience #patientvoice #psychologicalsafety #systemchange #bekindalways https://lnkd.in/gBha_74P

Today we recognize Men’s Health Week to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems among men and boys. This time allows healthcare providers, public policymakers, the media, and individuals to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. Health professionals using TWB’s CMES-Pi or USB can find an excellent EMRAP article titled Rural Medicine: Acute Urinary Retention on a Boat, February 2022 that details remote care for an acute male problem often encountered by rural practitioners. #CME #MedicalEducation #ICT4D #EmergencyMedicine #FOAMed #GlobalMedicalEducation

We have deep admiration for those who choose to protect and care for our society. The path to serving and stewarding human health — the role of the “Service Archetype”— never begins too early. Few fields evoke a sense of mentorship and possibility, like medicine.
