Happy Diwali! This will be my fourth experience of the celebration of Diwali in India, and with its focus on togetherness it inspires thoughts about how we can expand and grow the Sweden-India ties. First, it is important to recognize that a strong foundation is already in place. From a Swedish point of view, we already have companies, government Regeringskansliet, Klimat- och näringslivsdepartementet, Regeringskansliet, and national agencies such as Vinnova and Energimyndigheten together with other Team Sweden members such as Business Sweden, Swedish Chamber of Commerce India, Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC), IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet and many others collaborating successfully with their counterparts in India in many different areas. The foundation for robust Sweden-India collaboration is in place and established, with dedicated funding, strong multinational partnerships, and a shared vision of joint innovative development for a sustainable future. The Joint Declaration on Sweden-India Innovation Partnership for a Sustainable Future serves as an ideal umbrella framework, supporting and accelerating collaboration on multiple levels. Supporting it all is our ambassador Jan Thesleff who steers our activities so that we really are Sweden In India. Now, it may be the time to elevate this partnership to the next level by exploring regional and state-level collaborations. Swedish regions and Indian states each hold unique expertise, anchored in the concepts of Smart Specialization and Regional Knowledge Hubs. This alignment creates a fertile ground for collaboration. Swedish regions are united by strategic priorities in areas like green technology, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and digital solutions, while Indian states have cultivated specialized knowledge hubs that focus on similar sectors. It would be interesting if we could connect the two systems and to unleash systemized collaboration on the state-region level. Regional and state-level partnerships not only expand our bilateral engagement but also bring real, measurable impacts to our communities. Our OSI New Delhi - Office of Science and Innovation, together with Tillväxtverket (The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth), is actively exploring these opportunities. We are planning for exchange between decision-makers and other state-region stakeholders to share needs and available collaboration opportunities with each other. And next year, we anticipate the first Swedish regional delegation to India to forge connections with Indian states and open doors for state-regional cooperation with a special focus on innovation and knowledge exchange. Today, as I'm celebrating Diwali in my home, I realize what this festival truly symbolizes, not just for my house but in our workspace. The lights and diyas we lit marked not only the victory of light over darkness but are indicative of hope, unity, and the promise of prosperity. Diwali, the festival of lights, reminds me of my roots; this year, I feel a new resonance with a lesson from Business Sutra by Devdutt Pattanaik, bringing Indian mythology into the heart of management philosophy. As an MBA student at XLRI-XOL Postgraduate Diploma in Management, I am immersed in global strategies and management principles, and I understand efficiency and structure from the Western perspective. However, as I go through Business Sutra, I get reminded of the potential guidance India can take to do business. Pattanaik explains the "3B framework" that he calls Belief, Behavior, and Business. According to him, our central beliefs influence our behaviours, eventually translating into how we do business. While much Western management strives for precise targets and clear hierarchy, the Indian model encourages us to look much more deeply into building relationships and creating a workplace atmosphere that feels much more "ranga-bhoomia" as it reflects a joyful space for interaction. This calls for attaining wealth by attracting the same rather than constantly chasing and pursuing it. As I light diyas tonight, each flame feels like a small beacon guiding me toward this harmonious approach to work. Diwali calls us to think not only about our goals but about our journey. And just as we bring family together during the festival, we can aim to foster the same inclusivity and warmth within our teams.
