▶️ VIRTUAL TOWN HALL ◀️ I was delighted to host today's Chartered Accountants Ireland Town Hall discussing the proposed amalgamation with CPA Ireland. I was joined by Immediate Past President Pat O'Neill, Deputy President Barry Doyle and Vice President Pamela McCreedy FCA. President Sinead Donovan was keen to join but unfortunately due to an unavoidable conflict had to send apologies for this particular session. Institute Leadership team reps also participated. We took the opportunity to walk through the proposal and take questions from members and have a really open and candid discussion. Looking at the future and at the bigger picture a merger makes absolute sense to me. My yes vote motivators are: 🔷 Enhancing attractiveness of the profession when talent attraction is a really serious challenge. We would remove a competing Accounting body and become the largest professional body of any sector which is a fantastic marketing message and great for brand impact 🔷 Members get the benefit of 2 strong dual designations so they can use ACA/FCA and CPA/FCPA (CPA has fantastic global clout) 🔷 Members and students will benefit from enhanced services if the organisations resources are pooled As a very proud member, I initially worried about brand dilution but now am satisfied this is the right move and combined we will be a stronger more impactful and future proofed Institute. In my opinion, we need to make bold decisions to ensure our longevity and relevance! ▶️ NEXT STEPS All members have received an email with instructions on voting. Search CES Vote in your emails to locate the relevant communication - voting takes 10 seconds. A reminder will also be sent tomorrow afternoon. Please vote by 14 February 1pm and have your say and also encourage fellow members to do the same! This is a really important ballot and opportunity to influence the future of our profession.
