I have been wanting to write on ribbed slab before and I found this. I love it. For long-span in a building subjected to a low live load, ribbed slabs are more economical than reinforced concrete solid slab. In ribbed slab construction, a reduction in the volume of concrete is achieved by removing some of the concrete below the neutral axis of the section, under the assumption that the tensile strength of concrete is negligible. In Nigeria polystyrene have been successfully used and it offers the advantage of light weight, improved fire resistance, and economy, at the expense of less rigidity compared to clay hollow pots or blocks. ~

Sand is an essential building material that accounts for about 75% content of most buildings , using Nigeria as a case study. We have the Coarse sand also known as sharp sand, the natural river sand also known as plaster sand, clay sand ( awo mmamma and laterite prevalent in the South east , not recommended) , artificial sand also known as manufactured sand. The choice of sand used throughout the construction process can make or mar your building especially with special consideration to the location (if it has high water density, constant rainfall etc) Sand is used from foundation to rendering and finishing, and if wrongly used (proportion and type) it can cause condensation, hydrostatic pressure etc PLASTERING. The choice of sand used during plastering is very very key especially when it comes to the rendering stage of construction. Poor "proportion of mixture" and wrong sand type can cause cracks/peels/ bubbles. These will not only affect your screeded walls , but will also affect your painted walls. " Triple jeopardy". It can also affect the strength of the attachments to the wall like your kitchen unit, electrical fittings , plumbing, tiling etc....the strength of your wall will determine the strength of these attachments to the wall . It is a cost-effective and durable solution for low-traffic roads, offering good drainage and load-bearing capacity. The interlocking nature of the aggregates provides stability and resistance against deformation. Coarse aggregate made up stone crushed, filler materials and binder are overlaid over one another to construct Water Bound Macadam roads. The properties and gradation must be properly maintained to have a strong and durable construction. Coarse aggregate should be strong, hard, and durable. It should be free from elongated and flaky particles and have an acceptable shape and size.
