🌍 Today, on International Day of People with Disabilities, United Nations highlights that 16% of the world’s population – around 1.3 billion people – live with a significant disability. But this number only tells part of the story. Disability reaches far beyond individuals, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and families who support, care for, and share experiences with loved ones. At Calvert Exmoor, I’ve seen the power of inclusion first-hand. When people of all abilities can come together to share challenges, adventures, and achievements, the focus shifts from limitations to possibilities. It becomes about what you CAN do – a truth that builds confidence and resilience in the whole group, leaving an impact that lasts long after they leave our doors. This year’s theme for IDPWD is a powerful call to action: to amplify the voices of those with lived experience. At Calvert Exmoor, we do this by creating spaces where people can advocate for themselves, share their experiences, and inspire others. Whether it's through activities that build confidence, moments of leadership during group challenges, or simply being part of a community that listens and values every voice, we work to ensure everyone feels heard and empowered. Because inclusion is not just about accessibility – it’s about belonging and creating a world shaped by those who truly understand it. 💙 #CalvertExmoor #Empowerment #UnitedNations #DisabilityAdvocacy #InclusionMatters #IDPWD2024.
An estimated 1.3 billion people live with a significant disability today. No one understands the needs of persons with disabilities better than they do themselves. To achieve a more inclusive and accessible world, people with disabilities must have a seat at decision-making tables. “Persons with disabilities are changemakers, peacemakers and leaders,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday’s International Day of People with Disabilities. “Let’s work with persons with disabilities to achieve an inclusive and sustainable future for all people." https://lnkd.in/dkK3MGF 📸: UNDP

Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a moment to start to incorporate the reflection on how we can grow as individuals and as a society. I believe that becoming the best version of ourselves begins with embracing awareness—understanding the diverse realities people face and stepping into unfamiliar scenarios to expand our perspective. #Leadership As a starting point we can: • Learn what a disability is and how it differs from an illness. • Understand the various types of disabilities. • Use respectful and inclusive language. • Explore how we can actively make a difference in supporting and including people with disabilities.

Today, an estimated 1.3 billion people live with a significant disability. As the United Nations reminds us, no one understands the needs of persons with disabilities better than they do themselves. To create a truly inclusive and accessible world, it’s essential that people with disabilities have a seat at decision-making tables. In the fields of #translation, #interpretation, and #terminology, accessibility and inclusivity must be at the forefront of our efforts. Ensuring that documents, subtitles, interpretation services, and linguistic #AI tools are accessible to persons with disabilities is critical to breaking down barriers and fostering equal opportunities. By leveraging innovative technologies and adopting inclusive practices, we can contribute to a world where language services empower everyone to participate fully in society. Check out the ILO Global Business and Disability Network for more information on inclusivity employment policies and practices in companies of all types around the world: https://lnkd.in/e9NRJEZS #ILO Let’s continue working together to make inclusivity a reality in every aspect of our work!

Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I'm reflecting on the theme "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." As a disability advocate, a person with a disability, and a leader in the NDIA, this resonates deeply. We need to move beyond awareness and actively create space for people with disabilities to lead, to shape policies, and to innovate solutions. And a message to private enterprise: Look beyond the disability and see the person and their strengths. We all have areas for improvement, but we all have strengths too. Harness that incredible talent pool! Let's champion a future where our voices are not just heard, but truly influence the path towards a more inclusive and accessible world for all. Be that company that others look to for leadership in the private sector 🤟 #IDPWD #IDPWD2024 #Leadership #Inclusion #DisabilityRights #DisabilityEmployment #NDIA

OPTrust is proud to practice the values of United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities — participation, representation and inclusion — today and every day. ‘Nothing About Us Without Us,’ the theme of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reminds us to listen to and empower voices from marginalized and underserved communities, allowing them to shape their conditions of their lives and their futures. At OPTrust, our People with Disabilities Employee Resource Group embodies this theme every day, with employees with disabilities and allies coming together to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create an environment where accessibility and inclusion are the norms, not the exceptions. #IDPD2024 #Inclusion #Accessibility #Diversity

16% of the global population—1.3 billion people—live with a disability. By 2050, this figure is estimated to rise to 25%. This projection compels us to reflect on the visible and invisible barriers that persist in our daily lives and to work on removing them to ensure a more inclusive world for everyone, regardless of their abilities. As António Guterres said, “Persons with disabilities are changemakers, peacemakers, and leaders.” To build a sustainable and inclusive future, we must ensure that all voices are heard at decision-making tables. From small actions, like improving accessibility in airports, to broader initiatives, like shaping inclusive public policies, we can help create a world where everyone can have the best possible experience. Small steps can lead to significant change. What barriers do you notice in your environment, and how can we work together to transform them? #DisabilityInclusion #Accessibility #Inclusion #WeAreBillions

This video shows the reaction I do when someone asks me what support do I need rather than assuming that I’m okay or I cannot do it. ⭐️ What are Reasonable Adjustments? 💫 Reasonable Adjustments refer to changes or modifications made to enable people with disabilities to access services, participate in activities, or perform jobs on an equal basis with others. These adjustments aim to remove barriers that individuals with disabilities might face. They can be made in various contexts, such as education, employment, public services, and everyday activities. Did you know Reasonable Adjustments existed? #Inclusion #Accessibility #EqualOpportunities #DisabilityRights #EqualityAct #Inclusion #ReasonableAdjustments #Deaf #NHSNurse, #DeafNurse #CriticalCareNurse
