Our national sociological study on the perception of people with disabilities in Ukraine is now available in English! It was conducted by the sociological group “Rating” Соціологічна група "РЕЙТИНГ" from August to October 2023. Two groups of respondents were involved in the survey to obtain an objective result: individuals with disabilities (military and civilian) and individuals without disabilities. The results include statistical data, insights from in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. Iraq has hosted its first ever Forum on Disability Inclusion, organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). ⭐ In collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), this groundbreaking event marked a significant step towards fostering an inclusive society where individuals of all abilities are empowered and supported. 🌍 Today, on International Day of People with Disabilities, United Nations highlights that 16% of the world’s population – around 1.3 billion people – live with a significant disability. But this number only tells part of the story. Disability reaches far beyond individuals, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and families who support, care for, and share experiences with loved ones. Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a moment to start to incorporate the reflection on how we can grow as individuals and as a society. I believe that becoming the best version of ourselves begins with embracing awareness—understanding the diverse realities people face and stepping into unfamiliar scenarios to expand our perspective. #Leadership As a starting point we can: • Learn what a disability is and how it differs from an illness. • Understand the various types of disabilities. • Use respectful and inclusive language. • Explore how we can actively make a difference in supporting and including people with disabilities.

Today, an estimated 1.3 billion people live with a significant disability. As the United Nations reminds us, no one understands the needs of persons with disabilities better than they do themselves. To create a truly inclusive and accessible world, it’s essential that people with disabilities have a seat at decision-making tables. In the fields of #translation, #interpretation, and #terminology, accessibility and inclusivity must be at the forefront of our efforts. Ensuring that documents, subtitles, interpretation services, and linguistic #AI tools are accessible to persons with disabilities is critical to breaking down barriers and fostering equal opportunities. By leveraging innovative technologies and adopting inclusive practices, we can contribute to a world where language services empower everyone to participate fully in society. Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I'm reflecting on the theme "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." As a disability advocate, a person with a disability, and a leader in the NDIA, this resonates deeply. We need to move beyond awareness and actively create space for people with disabilities to lead, to shape policies, and to innovate solutions. And a message to private enterprise: Look beyond the disability and see the person and their strengths. We all have areas for improvement, but we all have strengths too. Harness that incredible talent pool! Let's champion a future where our voices are not just heard, but truly influence the path towards a more inclusive and accessible world for all.
