Treating WEEE 19 12 11 (part one.) Do you know what the waste code 19 12 11 refers to? It's a waste code that covers a multitude of shredded hazardous wastes. When applied to WEEE (waste electricals), it refers to a magnetic smorgasbord of Steels, Aluminium, Copper, motherboards and plastics that are notoriously hard to separate into their usable parts. Sadly, a lot of this ends up in landfill. At Zixtel Ltd, we've spent three years developing a process to separate this waste with the end goal of recovering the majority of resources so they can be sent back into manufacturing. Our process has been successful in recovering the plastics, which can now go straight for testing, with the vast majority of non-PoPs (fire retardant) plastics made available for reuse. We also recover the metals and boards as separate fractions. In part two, we'll delve into more detail about our process for recovering the metals and boards. If in the meantime you'd like to discuss how we can help your own sustainability journey then please feel free to contact me. #WEEE #recycling #manufacturing #hazardouswaste #zerowaste

Electronic waste goes through five stages of #recycling collection and storage. 1. It is brought to a warehouse, where it is segregated. 2. It is shipped to the recycling unit, where the devices are broken down into raw components, 3. Then enter the recycling line and get converted into four different items — metals such as ferrous and non ferrous metals like #iron, #steel, #copper, #aluminium —, various kinds of plastics such as LD, HD, PET etc., glass. 4. And the fourth component, which is the crucial part, is the hazardous element that makes e-waste a nuisance — for example, lead found in an old CRT TV or a CRT monitor, or let's say, #lithiumbatteries found inside a mobile phone. They need to be recycled properly, so as to ensure that it does not cause any harm to the environment as well as to the people who are dealing with it. 5. Then the #hazardous substance is removed from the electronic it is stored separately, and it is sent for treatment separately, so as to cause no harm to the environment and also to the people who are involved in the process. 🌟 The Environmental Impact of E-Waste Recycling: A Brighter Future! 🌟 #ewasterecycling #sustainability #environment 🌎 As our world becomes increasingly digital, so does the volume of electronic waste (e-waste) we generate. But fear not! E-waste recycling is here to save the day, and it’s more than just a buzzword. Let’s dive into the top benefits of recycling electronic waste: 1️⃣ Prioritising Environmental Protection: E-waste contains hazardous substances called POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants). By recycling, we prevent these toxins from seeping into our environment. Plus, we recover valuable resources from e-waste, reducing the need for new raw materials. 🌿 2️⃣ Conserving Natural Resources: Mining minerals for electronics can harm ecosystems. Recycling allows us to reuse components like copper, gold, silver, rhodium and palladium, minimising the strain on Mother Earth. 🌎 3️⃣ Creating Jobs: E-waste recycling isn’t just about saving the planet; it’s about livelihoods too! In the UK alone, recycling activities provide jobs, tax revenues, and wages. For every thousand tons recycled, 1.57 jobs are created. 💼 4️⃣ Reducing Air Pollution: Toxic gases released during improper disposal harm our air quality. By recycling e-waste, we curb these emissions and breathe cleaner air. 🌬️ 5️⃣ Preserving Water Bodies: Toxic e-waste can poison our waterways. Responsible recycling ensures freshwater stays safe for all living organisms. 🌊 6️⃣ Boosting the Economy: Recycling contributes to economic growth. It’s a win-win – protecting the environment while supporting local businesses. 💷 Remember, every old smartphone, laptop, or gadget you recycle contributes to a healthier planet. Let’s be e-waste warriors! ♻ Learn more about e-waste recycling: https://lnkd.in/d5bCBrsj #SustainableLiving #GreenTech #RecycleResponsibly

How to Recycle Your Old Batteries? 🌍 🌱 In the Energize Tomorrow article today we are going to inform you about how to make your community and the planet safer by recycling your used batteries. Recycling batteries is easy and provides many benefits, including preventing potentially hazardous materials from entering the waste stream, protecting against fires that can be caused by trashed batteries, and conserving natural resources. Here are a few tips For Safe and Easy Battery Recycling Be sure to safely prepare your batteries. There are two options: Bag each battery in its clear plastic bag before placing it in a storage container. Or tape the terminals with clear packing, non-conductive electrical, or duct tape, keeping the label visible. Store the batteries in a cool, dry place. Incidents can occur when batteries or the devices they power, such as the inverter, or BMS are exposed to wet or excessively hot conditions. Storing them in a cool and dry place is critical for their safety. Do not keep a swollen or bulging battery If you see a swollen or bulging battery, immediately put it in a non-flammable material such as sand in a cool, dry place. DO NOT THROW AWAY. Contact the manufacturer immediately for instructions, especially if the label says it is Lithium or Lithium-Ion. Do not overuse batteries Aim to drop off batteries for recycling after their mentioned lifetime, ensuring they are bagged or taped as previously mentioned. Hand over to battery waste collecting stations After use, hand over your old batteries to e-waste or battery waste collection points in your area. Ensure they are authorized recycling stations. In the recycling facilities, the Batteries are broken down into smaller pieces. This process separates the components like metals, plastics, and chemical contents. Then, high-temperature furnaces are used to melt the metals, separating valuable metals like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and lead. Recovered materials are processed and refined for reuse in new batteries or other products. This will ensure protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and preventing hazardous materials from contaminating the waste stream. Together, we can make a significant impact. Start recycling your batteries today and help protect our planet for future generations! 🌍 🌱 #Renewaa #EcoFriendly #GreenFurture

Did you know that EPS can be effortlessly repurposed into fresh EPS or alternative plastic items through recycling process? ♻️ EPS offers convenient mechanical recycling, enabling seamless preparation for future tasks. Through this process, individual beads are affixed to new EPS granules, allowing them to excel in new applications. Furthermore, EPS can undergo simple melting processes to revert to its original packaging material. Recycled plastic is obtained and utilized in the production of new plastics. Additionally, EPS packaging can be utilized in contemporary thermal power plants to generate district heating. In this thermal recycling process, 1 kg of EPS® substitutes 1.4 liters of fuel oil.
