Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and I wanted to reshare this powerful and poignant video from a year ago. We all have a role to play in changing the narrative around suicide and mental health. With suicide being the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the country and suicides among teenage girls and young women doubling in recent years, having one day to recognise suicide prevention isn’t enough. We need to continue to have the conversation and raise awareness. Often, the struggles others face are not visible , which is why its so important to be kind, compassionate, understanding and supportive. If you're worried about someone, take the time to reach out. You never know how much your words might mean. 📞 Samaritans: Call 116 123 (Free, 24/7) – A confidential helpline for anyone in distress or struggling to cope. SHOUT: Text SHOUT to 85258 – A free 24/7 text service for anyone feeling overwhelmed or needing immediate support. CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably): Call 0800 58 58 58 (5pm–midnight) – For men facing mental health challenges and anyone in crisis. #worldsuicidepreventionday https://lnkd.in/eg2bNFg7

Simple and effective connection/distraction.
Unboxing human connections at work | Team & People development | Suicide Prevention | MHFA | Insights Discovery | Keynote Speaker
On a trip last week, I saw the Samaritans advert that really hit home, reminding me that the smallest gesture can make a MASSIVE difference. If you’ve ever noticed someone at a train station who seems distressed or lost, you might wonder what you can do. It doesn’t need to be complicated. 💬 Simply asking, “Hi, where can I get a coffee around here?” or "Do you have the time?" can gently burst that bubble of isolation, showing them that someone sees and cares....even if it is to hear their opinion of where to get coffee. Sometimes, we hold back, worried we won’t say the “right thing,” but reaching out is about connection, not perfection. Just by being there, we can help someone feel a little more grounded, a little less alone. The Samaritans offer great resources on how to support those who may be struggling. #MentalHealth #Samaritans #SuicidePrevention #WeListen #BurstTheBubble #SupportNetwork

Time to celebrate all the amazing young people and adults who who helped Rhiannon and I share the weight on our shoulders in Brighton over the weekend (all 37 of them). 💪🥳💚 So proud of her and I am so grateful to each and every person that offered to help us… especially the young ones who helped Rhiannon carry her bag of worries 💚. They made the day so special for her and showed that no matter how old we are, we can be there for each other. It doesn’t matter where I go or how many times I ask for help to share the weight on my shoulders, each event, each moment and each conversation means so much. 💚 I hope these little videos show that sharing the weight we carry on our shoulders doesn’t make us weak or a burden. It makes us human, it brings us together and the more we share our weight, the more we give permission for others to share theirs. Please don’t forget if you are stuggling with the weight of the world on your shoulders, Samaritans are there for you 24/7 on 116123 The journey to ask a million people to share the weight on my shoulders continues one conversation, one hug and one km at a time. 💚 Together we share the weight 💪 Together we crush the stigma 💪 #sharetheweight #crushthestigma #mentalhealth #askforhelp #suicideprevention #mensmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealth

This one is for all the advocates, protesters, and students speaking up relentlessly on this platform for Palestine, on the occasion of mental health awareness month. You want to save the world. I know. But that can be hard to handle. You want to make a difference. I know. But that can be hard to fight for. You want it to all stop. I know. And that can feel endless and hopeless. But as you fight this fight, remember that: You can’t save the world. But the fact that you are trying is already an amazing feat. Applaud yourself for that. You are already making a difference. No matter how big or how small, it doesn’t matter. The fact that you are “thinking” differently, thinking that you WANT to make a difference, is a beautiful thing in and of itself. Survivor guilt and anger are common symptoms of advocacy. What you are feeling can be very isolating. You may look around you and feel that people are not doing enough. Or you might think that no matter what you do, it’s pointless. But that is far from the truth. The fact is, you are not alone. And I have had the pleasure of meeting so many people through this platform, and watching in awe communities, generations, and countries come together to fight for this cause. It truly is fascinating. So don’t feel guilty when you need to take a break. Step back. Recharge. And come back full force. You being emotionally and physically drained won’t help your cause. What is happening is not your fault nor is it in your control. Unfortunately, there are bigger powers at play. But the fact that you have the courage and bravery to speak up and stand up in the face of injustice, that should give you peace where it is difficult to find. Know that you are trying your best, and that “best” matters. You shouldn’t give more than you can. And the little things you do do have a positive ripple effect, even if you can’t see it. It’s all in the little steps that we take together. You are not alone. And you don’t need to do it one your own either. So take a deep breath, a step back, and remind yourself that you are doing the best you can, and that that is enough. Stay brave 🙏 #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #ceasefirenow #freepalestine #advocacy #mentalhealth

Go gentle please. This time of year can be super hard for some people. The hopes of a fresh start of a new year can be a reminder of the struggles people face daily. Be it chronic illness, loss of relationships, grief, disappointment of financial state, lost dreams. It’s brings the cold and for some a need to withdraw a little and get more space. So please, go gentle. Ask the question- “how are you? - no really?” Reach out, or make your needs known by someone you know and trust. If that’s too much- or doesn’t feel right, find some support or direct someone to it. Try a support group, like Mind or ring a helpline like Samaritans. Maybe look for some therapy. Be kind to yourself. Hannah #wellbeing #therapy #counselling
