Empathy is for all levels of your organization! Truly transformative leaders know the power of human-centric skills at work.
In my work with The Villages, the leadership teams participate in the supervisor trainings. In contrast, I remember a Handle with Care Consulting session that I did a few years ago with a company. It was billed as an "all-staff" event. However, when the session came, all of the members of the executive team failed to show up. "Where was top leadership? Why didn't they think they needed to be here?" was one of the indignant (and observant) comments on a post-session survey. Yes, empathy matters for supervisors and for middle management. But leadership errs (and creates awful optics) if they think that this is not a skill-set that matters at the top.
