The Ghat of Yamuna: 'Beholding the River' Located on the Vishram Ghat in Mathura, which served as a pivotal locus of architectural elements in Braj, Sati Burj is a commemorative tower commissioned by Raja Bhagwant Das of Amer. Completed in 1570, this 55 feet high tower is dedicated to the mother of Raja Bhagwant Das who had committed the act of sati (a practice of self immolation on the death of the husband as a testimony to faithfulness) for his father. Given the affinity between the rulers of Amer and the Mughal emperor, the architectural style of the Burj was heavily influenced by the Mughal architectural style. The main doorway is dotted with various ritualistic images of yantras, one of the most interesting being the panchkona yantra, a five pointed star symbolising the five mahabhutas- ether, air, fire, water and earth. This is accompanied by the symbol of Lotus which is used as a tool for concentration during meditative practices. The viewing window atop the structure functioned as an optical apparatus and would've provided an unhindered view of the flowing Yamuna river and the pilgrimage practices conducted on the Vishram Ghat. The viewing of Yamuna becomes an important act if one considers the authoritative text Haribhaktivilasa, a 16th century authoritative text for ritualistic practices which describes the function of Yamuna: 'The river Saraswati purifies one after three days. The river Narmada purifies one after seven weeks. The river Ganga purified one immediately. Yamuna purifies one who beholds it.' Therefore the darshan of the river in itself becomes a ritualistic beholding which in turn acts as a tool for purification. #mathura #ghatsofmathura #heritage #natureculture

In the heart of #Kashmir, where the stunning landscapes mirror the artistry of its people, the tradition of #Pashmina shawl-making has thrived for centuries. Each shawl tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship, rich heritage, and the enduring spirit of the artisans who create them. For generations, these artisans have faced the challenges of manual #spinning, which can be physically demanding, especially for the women who play a crucial role in this #craft. However, a remarkable innovation has emerged: the modern charkha, a foot-operated spinning wheel that has transformed their working conditions. With the introduction of this innovative tool, artisans can now spin #Pashmina with greater ease and efficiency. The burden of labor has significantly decreased, allowing them to focus on the artistry and intricacy of their work. The #modern_charkha not only enhances production but also empowers artisans to carry forward their ancestral craft with pride and #passion. This evolution is more than just about efficiency; it's about preserving a #cultural legacy while embracing #modernity. By blending traditional techniques with contemporary tools, Kashmir's artisans are ensuring that their rich heritage continues to flourish for #future_generations. Let’s celebrate these talented individuals who embody resilience and creativity, and support their craft as they weave not just shawls but the very fabric of their community. 🧵✨ #kashmir #pashmina #artisans #empowerment #innovation #craftsmanship #sustainability #dnn24 Tap on the link to watch the video: https://lnkd.in/gKHgjgCw

#VishwakarmaPuja, also known as Vishwakarma Jayanti, is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Vishwakarma, the #DivineArchitect and craftsman of the gods. He is believed to be the creator of the universe's structures, including the celestial palaces, weapons of the gods, and all kinds of machinery. When is it celebrated? Date: It is typically celebrated on the last day of the Bengali month of Bhadra (Bhadra Sankranti), which usually falls in September. It is particularly important for artisans, craftsmen, engineers, architects, and workers in industries like factories, where machinery and tools are used. Significance: 1. Lord Vishwakarma: He is worshipped as the god of architecture, engineering, and machinery. He is also considered the architect of the mythical city of Dwarka, and the designer of the famous weapon Vajra (used by Lord Indra). 2. Industrial Relevance: On this day, factories, workshops, and offices with machinery honor #LordVishwakarma by performing puja, praying for the smooth functioning of their tools and machinery. 3. Artisans and Craftsmen: Carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and workers from various technical fields celebrate this day by offering prayers for prosperity and success in their work. Rituals: 1. Puja Offerings: During the Puja, people clean and decorate their tools, machines, and even vehicles. Special offerings such as fruits, flowers, sweets, and sometimes animal sacrifices (in certain regions) are made. 3. Workplace Celebration: Many companies, factories, and workshops hold the puja on-site, and after the ritual, the day is considered a holiday in many places, especially in industrial sectors. #VishwakarmaPuja is both a religious and community event, promoting the spirit of craftsmanship and acknowledging the importance of skilled labor in society. #VishwakarmaJayanti #VishwakarmaCelebration #VishwakarmaPuja #VishwakarmaBlessings #LordVishwakarma #PujaForProsperity #DivineArchitect #EngineeringGod #WorkplacePuja

9 reasons why the Brihadeeswara Temple in Tamil Nadu, is one of the greatest structures ever built. 1. The Mandir is built using the interlock method where no cement, plaster or adhesive was used between the stones. It has survived 1000 years and 6 earthquakes. 2. The Mandir tower at 216 feet was likely the tallest in the world at the time. 3. The other structures built using this method Big Ben and Leaning Tower of Pisa are tilting with time. The Mandir which is far older has zero degree inclination. 4. 130,000 tons of granite was used to build the Mandir which was transported by 3000 elephants from 60 kms away 5. The Mandir was constructed without digging the earth. There was no foundation dug for the Mandir! 6. The Kumbham at the top of the Mandir tower weighs 80 tons and is monolithic. Yes monolithic! Craved from a single stone 7. Several theories exist as to how the 80 ton stone piece got atop the 200+ feet tower. Some suggest the use of levitation technology, but the more plausible explaination seems to be the use of elephants to pull the stone piece across a nearly 6 km long ramp. 8. It is said that several underground passages exist below the Mandir, most of whichwere sealed off centuries ago. It is said that these underground passages were safety traps and exit points for the Cholas. Some souces put the count of these passages to 100 9. The Mandir is so remarkable that some people go the the extent of saying that it was built by aliens. There is nothing quite like the Brihadeeswara Mandir and there will never be something quite like it. Raja Raja Chola was a visionary. We must treasure this timeless marvel. #hindutemple #incredibleindia #tamil #architecture #india #hindustan #Bharat #indian #ancestors 🇮🇳

Can you imagine how our ancestors would have built this temple? The Varadharaja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance of the Chola Kings and later the Nayaks of Thanjavur. Built-in the 10th century, this Dravidian marvel is one of the 108 Divya Desams, revered by the poet saints, the Alvars. It’s incredible to imagine the craftsmanship and dedication that went into creating this timeless piece of history! #TempleHeritage #AncientArchitecture #DravidianMarvel #CulturalLegacy #CholaDynasty #HistoricalTemples #Kanchipuram #VishnuTemples #DivyaDesams #IndianHistory
