Imagine a greenhouse with LED lighting and plants grown vertically to maximize the yield per square foot. That's the how. The why is about removing seasonality from the equation which can reduce the carbon footprint of long supply chains and provide more fresh produce in urban environments. Khanjan purani and I have been working tirelessly to develop a machine learning model that predicts crop yield using Decision Trees. 🌳💻 Our model leverages the power of Sentinel datasets and Google Earth Engine to generate NDVI images for given coordinates. 🌍🛰️ This allows us to analyze vegetation health and predict crop yield with higher accuracy. This project has been an incredible journey of learning and growth. 🌱 Can AI be successfully used in agriculture? 🌱 In one of our projects, we were challenged to create a detector that takes a satellite image of a field as input and tells us which crops are threatened. 👉 The biggest challenges? 👇 1️⃣ There were various levels of identification, from broad categories, like the type of land, to highly detailed ones, like the type of threat. 2️⃣ There was a need for visual segmentation of the satellite image. 3️⃣ We had to label data efficiently so we didn’t waste the time of the agriculture experts.
