Military children often grapple with unique challenges, including frequent relocations, school transitions, and adjusting to new environments. Their resilience in the face of these adversities is commendable, yet it's crucial to recognize the silent suffering they endure. The transition experienced by #militaryfamilies when a member leaves the service is equally daunting. While we are well aware of the hardships faced by the service member, it's equally important to consider the impact on their children. For some, the #militarylifestyle is all they've ever known, a stark contrast to civilian life. Relocations are universally recognized as significant #stressors for adults. Imagine, then, the duress experienced by children in such circumstances! The support systems available are insufficient, leaving parents feeling helpless and overwhelmed. Furthermore, while there's an abundance of resources for #mentalhealth treatment and care, the reality is that the system is broken. I speak from personal experience, having served as a #militarymember and a #mother, and having provided #mentalhealth treatment to patients, be it #activeduty mbrs and #veterans. The current state of affairs is far from satisfactory, and there is a pressing need for significant enhancements. These improvements should not only benefit the #servicemember but also, and more importantly, their #families, particularly the #militarychildren. I eagerly anticipate the outcomes of this webinar and hope that many others will join this important conversation. #GotYour6 #CraigNewmark #militarytransition #militarychildren #mentalhealth #Veterans #FemaleVeterans #MonthoftheMilitaryChild #BoBWoodruffFoundation #UnitedWay
It's April - which is #MonthoftheMilitaryChild. For children in military and veteran families, mental health challenges are compounded by frequent moves, deployments, barriers to care, and other service-related stressors. Military children are also more likely than their civilian peers to experience financial instability, food shortages, or housing instability and to have parents or caregivers who are frontline workers—all of which are risk factors for poor mental health. The Bob Woodruff Foundation has pulled together experts who will share about the unique ways they are serving this special population of the military-connected community. Register today for our upcoming webinar on April 24 at 3 PM ET for a great discussion on how your organization can better support the mental health needs of our military connected children. https://lnkd.in/gTtV2qPU #bwf #veterans #militarychildren #mentalhealth

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health issues affect almost half of all military Veterans, making access to mental health services a true necessity. However, senior Veterans’ mental health crises can look a bit different. We describe common mental health issues that senior Veterans face, some of the VA’s helpful programs, and how to get started to share with any of your Veteran residents and their families. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #VeteranResidents #Veterans #SeniorLivingCommunities #SeniorCare

Mental Health Awareness Month raises awareness of trauma and the impact it can have on the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of millions of people of all ages. According to the National Council for Behavioral Health, 30 percent of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have a mental health condition requiring treatment – approximately 730,000 men and women, with many experiencing PTSD and depression. Less than 50 percent of returning veterans in need receive any mental health treatment. The Veterans Administration reports that approximately 22 veterans die by suicide every day. Lengths of deployments are associated with more emotional difficulties among military children and more mental health problems among U.S. Army wives. Symptoms and circumstances of mental health concerns come in many different ways. Often, those symptoms are hard to detect. Remember to check in on yourself and your loved ones frequently. #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalWellness

It's crucial to recognize the statistics: between 27% and 44% of veterans reported difficulty in transitioning from military to civilian life in 2022. Despite significant efforts to improve transition services, there remains a pressing need for enhanced mental health support, resiliency training, coping mechanisms for stress, long-term transition planning, and family counseling services. Stay tuned for updates on the release of my book, where we'll delve deeper into the challenges and victories of transitioning from military to civilian life. . . . . #transitioningveterans #civilianlife #militarytransition #veteransupport #emotionaljourney #staytuned #veterantransition #militaryservice #mentalhealth #resiliency #familycounseling #support #veteranlife #veterancommunity #transitionassistance
