Are you biased? Bias, both conscious and unconscious, undermines organisational values of #ethics, #diversity, #inclusion, and #equity. Conscious bias is intentional prejudice while unconscious bias is unintentional and often rooted in stereotypes. #Unconsciousbias can manifest in various HR functions, from recruitment to promotions, impacting talent acquisition, retention, and overall performance. 🧠 Unconscious Bias: The Hidden Influencer Did you know that our brains process a staggering 11 million bits of information every moment? Yet, only 40-50 bits make it to our conscious awareness. That means 99.9999% of the data is processed unconsciously! 😮 ** What is unconscious bias? ** Unconscious biases are learned assumptions, beliefs, or attitudes that exist in our subconscious. They influence our judgment and behaviours without us realising it. These biases can lead to skewed judgments and reinforce stereotypes. ** Why does it matter? ** Unchecked unconscious bias can impact our workforce, affecting hiring decisions and team dynamics. It perpetuates inequalities and can lead to unfair outcomes. ** How can we overcome it? ** 1. Make the unconscious conscious: Be aware of your biases. 🕵️♂️ 2. Learn about people who are different: Understand diverse perspectives. 🌎 3. Lead by example: Model inclusive behaviour. 👏 4. Call out bias: Encourage open conversations. 🗣️ 5. Start employee groups: Foster awareness and change. 🌟 Let’s create a more inclusive world! Unconscious Bias: Recognizing and Addressing the Hidden Influences In today's diverse workplace, understanding unconscious bias is crucial for fostering an inclusive environment. Unconscious bias refers to the stereotypes and prejudices that we unknowingly hold about certain groups of people. These biases are often deeply ingrained and can influence our decisions, actions, and interactions without us even realizing it. Why It Matters: Unconscious biases can affect hiring practices, team dynamics, and career progression. They can lead to unequal opportunities and hinder the potential of individuals who don't fit into preconceived notions. Recognizing these biases is the first step towards creating a more equitable workplace. Steps to Mitigate Unconscious Bias: Self-awareness: Reflect on your own biases by taking implicit association tests and engaging in introspection. Education: Participate in training programs that address diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diverse Hiring Panels: Ensure your recruitment process involves a diverse group of people to minimize bias. Structured Interviews: Use standardized questions to evaluate candidates consistently and fairly. Mentorship Programs: Support underrepresented groups through mentorship and sponsorship initiatives. Actionable Strategies: Implement blind recruitment techniques, such as removing names from resumes. Encourage open dialogues about bias and its impact. Regularly review and revise company policies to promote inclusivity. Join the Conversation: Let's work together to uncover and address our unconscious biases. Share your thoughts, experiences, and strategies for creating a more inclusive workplace. How have you or your organization tackled unconscious bias? eTeam Tanya Talwar Sagar Shahnawaz Priyanka Nandi Furkan Ahmed Ranjit Nair #UnconsciousBias #DiversityAndInclusion #Equity #InclusiveWorkplace #Leadership #HR #ProfessionalDevelopment #eteam

Stay where you are valued!! 🧘♀️ 🏃♀️ I had always been a cheerful person throughout my life, enjoying the journey of life, smiling in whatever situation it takes me to. Starting with organisations in colleges and later on in corporate, I realised... Your worth is from the skills you possess and your work, but never let anyone downgrade you. Work in culture where your thoughts and vision match. Be polite, but if you keep your guards down and starts working in environment where your thoughts are not valued, than you are no less than "CORPORATE MAJDOOR!". Enjoy what you do! Grow! 🎉 Surround yourself with companies, people and team that values you, where your work, thoughts and ethics match. Work where you feel peace and are happy. 😇 #workculture #corporate #corporatemajdoor #ethics #thoughts #growth

Some years back, I walked into an interview feeling confident and ready to showcase my skills and passion for the role. Instead of diving into my experience, one of the first questions I was asked was: “Are you aware of how your appearance might influence or hinder you in this work?” I remember sitting there, baffled, wondering how, in a world that’s supposedly moving toward inclusion and diversity, we were still having conversations like this. Somehow the idea of “fitting in” is still to this day deeply ingrained in a lot of corporate organizations, often at the expense of true diversity. As a career counselor and also a recruiter I have seen quite a few examples of rejections that indicate that many companies still chase someone who can fit in rather than explore how they can create a place which attracts and nurtures a diverse group of colleagues. I am wondering for how long we can keep doing this and still be able to hire amazing people? 🌈 Let’s create spaces where people can thrive as themselves, not just as another version of what’s already there. #Diversity #Inclusivity #Leadership

Unconscious bias refers to the automatic judgments or assumptions we make about others based on factors like race, gender, age, or background, without even realising it. These biases can influence decisions in the workplace, from hiring and promotions to everyday interactions. Understanding unconscious bias is the first step in addressing it. Everyone has biases, but recognising how they impact our actions allows us to take steps towards creating a fairer work environment. In recruitment, for example, unconscious bias can affect who gets shortlisted for roles, while in team dynamics, it can shape who is given more opportunities or responsibilities. Training and self-awareness can help reduce the influence of unconscious bias. Encouraging open conversations, diversifying teams, and implementing objective decision-making processes are ways to create a more inclusive workplace where all employees are judged based on their skills and contributions, rather than assumptions. #synerjy #unconscious #bias

Unconscious biases, though often silent and subtle, wield significant power and can dangerously influence decision-making, profoundly shaping the dynamics within organizations. For instance, during the recruitment process, a hiring manager might unconsciously favor candidates from a particular alma mater or geographic region 🏫🌍, potentially overlooking diverse talents that could bring fresh perspectives and innovation 🌟🎓 Recognizing and addressing these subtle influences helps us forge pathways toward more equitable and effective practices. Have you encountered similar biases? How did you address them? 🌐🕵️♂️✨🔍 Interested in learning strategies to check your biases during the hiring process?
