Duty of care is a crucial aspect of our work environment. Each of us must take reasonable care of ourselves, our colleagues, and anyone who may be affected by our actions. Your responsibility in this regard is vital The Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, safety & Technical Regulations,2012) (L.I.2182) Regulation 550 spells out the general duties of workmen regarding safety as: 1.Each person employed in a mine shall take reasonable care to ensure that the health and safety of that person and any other person employed on the mine is not adversely affected through an act of that person. 2.A person employed in a mine shall cooperate with the manager of the mine or the holder of the mine or the holder of a small-scale mining license in respect of the mine in the discharge of the relevant obligations under these regulations. 3.An employee is not liable for a contravention of this regulation where the employee does not act at the direction of a supervisor. #safetyfirst #safemining #sustainablemining #dutyofcare.

Human Rights Day is a poignant reminder of the intrinsic value of each individual and the rights that protect us all, including the right to safety and health at work. The mining industry, with its rich history and vital role in the global economy, faces unique challenges in ensuring the safety and health of its workers. In South Africa and across the African continent, we've seen first-hand the importance of maintaining high safety standards to protect our miners from harm. It's a commitment that transcends borders and resonates with mining communities around the world. Safety in mining is not just a legal requirement; it is a fundamental human right.
