One of the most COMPLEX problems faced by Research in Africa is a Lack of #VISIBILITY. The continent contributes to <1% of Global Research... But who is measuring, what & how?
Painfully, the lack of IMPACT of Local Research, Development & Innovation in the lives of the common African is no surprise. We keep importing technologies despite the thousands of Universities, millions of Researchers and Billions of Dollars in Grants going into Research. Where is the IMPACT?
The MOST PAINFUL is that AFRICAN RESEARCHERS are Broke, poor and therefore little motivation. I always joke that an Influencer on Social Media, will become financially stable before a Researcher in Africa today, in Nigeria... there's no doubt, in TOP 10 Most Popular Nigerians 9 are SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS. With Dr Bennet Omalu a Neuropathologist the only Academic sitting at #10. And if we include politically exposed persons ZERO Academic might make top 1000.
Whereas social media is Knowledge Marketplace and very few from the factory of Knowledge (Universities, Colleges, Research Institutions) can compete. A baker in a Bakery who can't afford BREAD. #Na to close bakery be that!..
Many efforts and attempts are going on all over the world to solve this LACK OF VISIBILITY of Critical Evidence Backed Knowledge, Research, Development and Innovation assets. Many platforms such as ASNS (ACADEMIA SOCIAL NETWORKS SITES) e.g. ORCID, ResearchGate, LinkedIn, Kudos, Google Scholar, ResearcherID, MENDELEY.COM, Academia.edu... Etc
Which is working in the Developed climb, but for Africa despite having adopted nearly all of these Technologies, IMPACT is yet to be significantly felt by the people and the African economies.
RIKE-SD in August 2023 birthed the concept of a RESEARCH INFLUENCER vs a SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER and the concept has expanded to meet a first attempt of this indigenous Technology Innovation Platform with Baze University and University of Abuja backed by the NIGERIA RDI COORDINATION CENTRE as a Community of Practice through the FMST NIGERIA.
RIC is poised to tackle the status quo and empower a new generation of change makers as RESEARCH CELEBRITIES and RESEARCH AMBASSADORS, leveraging Social media networks, ASNS, University-Based IRs to bring VISIBILITY to Local Research, Development & Innovation undertakings in Africa to ensure Impact & make Research attractive to the future generations of Africa.
RIC will be led by #7Jhon #DevelopmentActivist John Paul Fonyuy Mbiimbe our emblematic #7. Join us as we launch RIT_BAZE tomorrow.

The beauty of any research is to find its way to the public and contribute meaningfully to societal goals and development through the implementation of its findings. This can be achieved only when the findings (or output) are visible to the global community, as the gateway to research impact is visibility.
As we prepare for the inauguration of RIT-BAZE (Research Influencer Team-Baze University) at the Baze University campus, we are excited to invite all students(researchers and Innovators) of Baze University from every course of study to join us on Thursday, 11th of July, 2024 at 2PM prompt
