How many ways can you think of to utilise coir mesh logs? Coir logs are indeed the multi-tool of erosion control and soil stability! Whilst coir logs are primarily designed to stop soil erosion, there are many other ways they can be successfully used to meet a range of challenges. Here are five clever ways to use coir logs: 🌱Placed end-to-end along slopes, you can create a terracing effect with the coir logs acting as mini 'retaining walls' for steep terrain. 🌧️Coir logs can create embankments or be buried across gullies to slow water flow and flooding. 🌈Insert coir logs lengthways to collect silt and slow water flow, giving waterways a chance to re-establish their natural habitat. 🌊Used along water edges they help increase stability and slow erosion. Fun fact! In these circumstances you can even plant into coir logs with water-loving species such as rushes and sedges. The coir will help keep the plants safe from soil erosion and allow them to establish right along the waters edge! Can you think of even more ways to use coir logs? If you had issues with flooding because of #Debby, this post is for you. Prolonged exposure to high water creates unique issues in Stormwater Ponds. Most shorelines are grassy right to the edge of the pond, and manicured grass does a poor job of holding soil in place. This leads to the bank collapsing, which fills the pond and accelerates the need for dredging. The Lake Doctors has solutions to repair that shoreline, protect it against future erosion, is more aesthetically pleasing and effective than riprap. Seawall Erosion Issues Florida's seawall challenges include soil erosion worsened by storm surges, often requiring extensive repairs or replacement. Subsidence, due to soil shifts, can lead to structural issues like cracks or failure. Cape Coral's canal system utilizes various seawall types, each with specific vulnerabilities; vinyl seawalls may lack drainage, increasing hydrostatic pressure, while concrete seawalls face challenges from hurricanes and king tides. Addressing these demands customized solutions for effective coastal protection Book your Seawall Savers assessment today for peace of mind. 📞 239-284-6830

ErOsIoN cOnTrOl -- When you have to disturb a hillside, it loses its natural ability to mitigate against erosion. -- You may have seen us cover this hillside on US-89 in Davis County with straw. -- The straw helps to keep dirt in its place and allows future growth to "anchor" down through it into the dirt, keeping everything where it needs to be. -- The straw also helps keep moisture in the ground and acts as a "cushion" for falling rain to prevent dirt moving around when it shouldn't. -- #themoreyouknow

Did you know that straw erosion control blankets have benefits beyond just providing protection from raindrop impact? These products also allow moisture to easily pass through to the soil surface—exactly where it is needed to benefit newly germinated vegetation. Additionally, they reduce soil temperatures in hot weather and decrease evapotranspiration—all good things when establishing vegetation! If you have questions on this or any other erosion control or revegetation needs, please feel free to reach out! westerngreen.com #ErosionControl #SoilHealth #VegetationManagement #EnvironmentalSustainability #LandRestoration #GreenInfrastructure #EcoFriendlySolutions #construction #restoration #restoration

Common Detention Pond Failure Points Common failure points of detention ponds have mostly to do with stabilization. This is a fancy word that simply means established plant growth. This vegetation should consist of grasses and other small plants and weeds, but not woody growth like trees and shrubs. The goal of this vegetation is to hold the pond soils in place by their root structures. This is why multiple species (with differing root structures) is preferable to only one variety of grass. Without proper initial stabilization the pond slopes will degrade and in short time erode. The photo highlights this erosion due to a lack of established grasses. The result of this failure to properly stabilize is a loss of sediment into the public storm sewer which will eventually compromise the public drainage system and could cause upstream flooding. #stormwater #civilengineering #stormwaterprofessionalsgroup #texas #detentionpond #propertymanagement
