SQE preparation & MCQ questions The SQE mock assessment that Law Training Centre Ltd has launched helped me identify my mistakes and areas for improvement. I can genuinely say that practicing MCQ questions is the best way to prepare for the SQE. It’s not about memorizing the law, but rather about understanding it.

𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐑 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 ❜𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄❜ 📌 Disposition Time (‘DT’) is an indicator of the efficiency of civil justice as shown by the annual report presented at the inauguration of the judicial year 2024 by the Minister of Justice. It represents a theoretical estimate of the time needed to reach the final judgment. 📌 Mind the DISPOSITION TIME as a prediction of the claim’s reserve duration. Since litigation affects motor claims’ costs, a proactive approach focused on: 👉🏼 the assessment of the legal framework as applied by case law 👉🏼 the review of claims handling processes and instructions 👉🏼 claim handlers continuous efficient training is crucial to identify potential areas for improvement in decreasing litigation rate.

Dan's top SQE1 tips Know what you don't know Following on from my series of SQE2 tips I will be posting some for those of you attempting SQE1. All views are my own but are based on working successfully with significant numbers of SQE1 students. The challenge with SQE1 is the breadth of the syllabus for FLK1 and FLK2 and the fact that anything within the syllabus could be examined. The key to effective SQE preparation in my experience lies in being able to accurately measure at any point in time how much of the syllabus you know and can recollect and having a plan to learn the portion you don’t yet know in time for the exam. Therefore, my tip is to paste the FLK1 and 2 syllabus to be found here under the tab legal knowledge https://lnkd.in/eSMR6_yA into your own Word or Excel document and as you work through the course, periodically test your recall on each item against your source material whether that be a textbook, a lecture transcript or a flash card you have created. If you can accurately recall the topic highlight it in green, if you can’t in red and if you have some recall, you guessed it, yellow. The closer you get to the exam the more green you should see. If you think this is obvious, in my experience students who don’t follow this method typically make 2 errors in preparing for SQE1: To assume that by reading material they can recall it without independently testing their recall in the above manner; To rely on answering practice questions to learn and recall the law. In my view practice questions work well to test your understanding of a point but are a much less effective way of learning and recalling the law than working your way through a text periodically testing yourself. More on this in my next post. Wishing you a very pleasant weekend!

Do you work in a compliance team at a law firm? Then what are you doing at 12 today? Why not join Kate Burt and myself for another Compliance for Law Firms lunchtime session? Today Kate and I will be talking about how to build competence inside the firm and how the compliance team can have confidence that everyone in the firm has the required knowledge and skills to deliver. All too often, we see interventions from the regulator where a key remedial action is to improve the training and even introduce new training. In the session, we will explore how firms can look at training to ensure that they cover building knowledge at scale, solving pain points and building capacity. If you are not in the group, get in touch with either Kate or I for the Zoom link.
