*** Publication Alert: IMAGINE Research of Transformational Assessment ***
A publication in the latest Caribbean Journal of Education and Development issue,
Explores assessment’s power, its role we must construe,
“IMAGINE Research of Transformational Assessment” is its title,
A framework for equity, dismantling hierarchies vital.
Authored by Tony Onwuegbuzie, Elena Forzani, and Sandra Abrams,
Who call for critical dialectical pluralism, breaking traditional norms,
Reimagining assessment to empower and to explore,
Promoting equity in assessment, a transformative rapport.
In the realm of knowledge, wherein we seek to find
Assessment’s ancient roots intertwined,
Judgments cast, decisions made,
A legacy of misuse and abuse, a shadow laid.
Once the realm of rigid norms,
Hierarchies entrenched, with storms
Of bias, race, and privilege’s claim
In academia’s hallowed name.
But now we rise to challenge and to see
A vision of what assessment could be—
IMAGINE, we call, with voices strong,
Equity and justice, wherein all belong.
Through integrative mixed methods research, paths untold,
Qualitative, quantitative, in unity bold,
Those being assessed as partners, their voices clear,
Transforming assessment, far and near.
Critical dialectical pluralism guides,
Wherein every perspective, with respect, abides,
From classrooms to the global stage,
A new chapter, a turning page.
Critical Assessment Practices, or CAPS, we say,
A framework built to pave the way.
With justice at its core, it strives
To make assessment fair in all our lives.
In the Caribbean’s warm embrace,
Or the far corners of every place,
We seek to nurture and to educate
And dismantle the structures of systemic hate.
Let assessment be a bridge, not a wall,
In every study, large or small.
With CAPS and CDP, we strive and rejoice
In opportunities for all to have a voice.
IMAGINE, with minds open wide,
A future where knowledge and justice reside,
Where assessment is fair, empowering, and just,
In transformation, we place our trust.
