A 2023 report reveals that 10% of nonprofit CEOs in New York City are Black women, while 5% are Hispanic women. Many started with just a few dollars, operating from their kitchen tables to provide food and shelter to needy families. Unfortunately, we've shifted from being "neighbors" to being called "CEOs." On this GivingTuesday, I urge those considering a $20-$25 donation to support Black and Hispanic female-led nonprofits. These organizations understand the value of community collaboration and make the most of limited resources. While on a volunteer trip to West Baltimore with Chris, Jake starts up a conversation with a friendly and candid local named Don. 🗣 The two talked at length about the current status of the West Baltimore neighborhood and the volunteer efforts that were taking place that week. In 2024, it's sobering to realize that child labor still exists around the world. Despite many strides forward, millions of children are missing out on their childhoods, education, and basic rights because they have to work to help support their families. As professionals and community members, we can play a role in addressing this issue. Here are a few ways to make a difference: ➡ Educate and Advocate: Share information about child labor with your network. Raising awareness is the first step toward change. ➡ Support Ethical Practices: Consider supporting businesses that are committed to fair labor practices. Encouraging your organization to review and improve supply chains can help. ➡ Engage in Community Initiatives: Getting involved with or donating to organizations dedicated to ending child labor can have a big impact. Every bit of support helps. Child labor should be a relic of the past, not a reality of the present. Hope for New York’s mission is to provide volunteer and financial resources to organizations serving the poor and marginalized of New York City. Hope for New York partners with more than 60 nonprofit organizations to serve New Yorkers in need, including the homeless, vulnerable women, at-risk youth, immigrant populations, and the elderly. They seek to strengthen these organizations, called "affiliates," by giving grants to support their programs, mobilizing volunteers, and providing training and consulting so they can do their work even better. Their vision is a New York City where individuals and communities experience spiritual, personal, social, and economic well-being by demonstrating Christ’s love.
