Do you know about the coffee pot story? It goes something like this. People love coffee at the end of their meal. In a busy restaurant, a server, let's call him Bob, rushes to get some coffee for his customers. He nearly empties the coffee pot. Thinking about what the boss said, the customers are the most important thing; he puts the coffee pot down and rushes to his table. The next server, let's call her Suzy, is also in a rush. She is equally busy with equally important customers. She, too, needs fresh coffee for her important customers. But, she can't fulfill her mission because she has to wait three to five minutes for the new pot to finish brewing. Everything in business is a chain. Everyone plays a role in that chain. Don't be like Bob. Think of the next person down the chain. How can Bob achieve seemingly contradictory goals? Well, this time, it's Suzy. But next time, Bob may be the one faced with the empty pot. So, if everyone acts like Bob, all suffer. Making a coffee pot takes 30 to 45 seconds of setup and three to five minutes of idle time while the machine does its thing. If everyone takes less than 60 seconds in the moment, it saves everyone time and pain down the line. Have you been in Suzy's shoes? Photo by Skyler Smith on Unsplash

Ever wondered what the perfect holiday gift is for all the employees in your company? I've got this one. Give everyone the following: 1. A bag of fresh expensive coffee beans. 2. A $100 chemex glass hourglass style coffee filter unit. 3. Some chemex coffee filters. Why do this? Because: 1. All your employees should be coffee snobs. 2. You want your employees to be more caffeinated. 3. Absolutely everyone drinks coffee. 4. Because you, the CEO, love this overpriced coffee shit. Because that makes sense.

Monday Quiz! Can you answer this question??? I asked this question to the team and it triggered a great discussion, which allowed us to learn more deeply.. Now I ask you the same question.. ******* First, I gave the definition of VALUE.. VALUE = Anything the customer is willing to pay for. You own a coffee shop that offers high-quality coffee for takeaway. A customer came in and ordered a Latte. He paid for the coffee and the barista started making it. These are the activities that the barista followed after receiving payment. 1. Go to the coffee grinder 2. Grind some coffee 3. Go to the coffee brewer 4. Put the ground coffee into machine 5. Start brewing 6. Go to the refrigerator and get the milk 7. Go to the milk frother 8. Heat/froth milk for latte 9. Go get a cup 10. Pour the brewed coffee into the cup 11. Pour the milk into the cup 12. Bring the coffee to the customer ***** Question: Which activities do you think are VALUE - added activities? and WHY? Let's meet in the comments! #value #continuousimprovement #onepieceflow #linebalancing #leanmanufacturing

Let’s face it—when the café is buzzing, and orders are flying in, it’s easy for baristas to deviate from the set recipe. Whether it’s pulling a shot a few seconds too long or adjusting the grind on the fly, these small inconsistencies can add up, leading to coffee that doesn’t meet your standards. 🤷♂️ What's The Problem? Most baristas struggle to adhere to the precise recipe during peak hours. The result? Inconsistent coffee quality, dissatisfied customers, and missed opportunities for repeat business. Without clarity and control, it’s challenging to ensure every cup meets the expectations you’ve set for your brand. ✅ The Flow Solution: At Flow, we’ve developed a system that takes the guesswork out of coffee making. Our technology provides real-time feedback and adjustments, ensuring that every shot is pulled according to the defined recipe, even when the café is at its busiest. With Flow, you can maintain consistency across all your coffee offerings, keeping your customers happy and your sales strong—no matter how hectic the day gets. Let Flow help you bring consistency and quality back into focus, so every cup you serve is as perfect as the last. #FlowCoffee #AdherenceToRecipe #CoffeeConsistency #CafeEfficiency #BaristaLife #CoffeeInnovation #PerfectCoffee #CafeSuccess

Brewing Dilemmas: I Need Your Help! Something you may not know about me, I’m a bit of a coffee snob! ☕ But it’s a relatively recent development. Until about 10 years ago I never drank coffee, couldn’t stand the taste of it. However, because my wife enjoyed a café stop during our outings, and I wasn’t keen on paying a lot for a cup of hot water and a tea bag, I decided to try a latte. Liking it, I continued exploring different types of coffee. Now, my go-to choices are either an espresso or a small black Americano, and I haven’t looked back. My appreciation for quality coffee has contributed towards our home coffee buying. Whilst we haven’t invested in a coffee machine yet, I enjoy brewing with a simple cafetiere, AeroPress, or Moka pot. We generally buy our coffee, ground or beans, in our weekly shop. However, a recent show offer introduced me to a premier coffee brands’ home beans, and the difference in quality was astonishing. It made me realise I need to get out more – or at least explore the variety I’m clearly missing out on. Here’s my current dilemma 🤔 : Should I start spending a bit more on better tasting coffee, or stick with what I already buy, considering I already thought it was pricey?! Some stats for context: My current brand costs about 34p per cup, while the new beans are approximately 62p per cup (54p with a subscription). Additionally, my preferred small Americano at cafes is priced around £2.94, according to Meaningful Vision Ltd. While I’m not particularly brand loyal, I do appreciate quality, innovation and high tech products. I also understand and appreciate that included in the cost of a coffee at a café is the experience, which is invaluable when it’s a moment to relax, socialise, or take time-out. What’s your take on this? Should I stick with the cheaper everyday option, invest in better tasting coffee, take out a coffee subscription, or invest in a coffee machine? Or just get out more 😊?! P.S. I’m now happy to pay for a green tea when out - what goes around comes around! #UKCoffee #Cofee #Decisions #Leadership #Collaboration #CareerManagement #LinkedIn #BusinessLeadership #Empowerment #SharedVision
