There is no “invisible barrier separating the mouth from the rest of the body”. So why are we dentists looking at teeth with incredible detail and overlooking systemic health? And why are doctors not checking for sources of inflammation in the mouth of their patients? With the incidence of chronic inflammatory diseases on the rise, are we doing the best we can for our patients? Missing Link AI is an AI tool that scans panoramic X-rays and detects potential sources of low-grade chronic inflammation in the mouth that might be silently contributing to many medical conditions. Let’s start communicating better. Miguel Stanley White Clinic Missing Link AI #MissingLink #AI, #immunedentistry #artificialintelligence #artificialintelligenceinhealthcare #oralhealth #health
Any doctor can ask a cardiologist to check a patient’s heart and expect an electrocardiogram and the accompanying medical report. The same goes for any other organ in the body. But how does a doctor ask a dentist for a report if dentists are only looking at teeth and not at the big health picture? Maybe because they don’t understand that the big health picture implies an essential link between oral health and general health? Maybe they lack the right tools? 🤖 👀 We believe that this is a major blind spot in healthcare. And that is precisely why Missing Link aims to get doctors and dentists talking, offering a tool for the medical community to better understand this undeniable connection between mouth, body and brain. Our AI powered solution scans panoramic X-rays to detect potential sources of low-grade chronic inflammation in the mouth which aren’t visible to the naked eye, uncovering hidden dental issues that can be silently contributing to many health conditions. We find the missing link for physicians, practitioners and patients. 🤝 http://missinglink.ai #MissingLink #AI #artificialintelligence #artificialintelligenceindentistry #oralhealth #generalhealth

Technologies you can and SHOULD invest in - Part 3 A few days ago, I elaborated on some software that have caught my eye as a PCN leader and I believe everyone else should know about. I am very grateful for the support and thoughts and am excited to keep this very pertinent conversation going. I have a few more thoughts on how we can make primary care more tech savvy. I’d like to pick up from where I left off and continue discussing telephony services. 👉 Surgery Connect is a cloud-based telephony service which focuses on integrating AI into triaging. Here are some interesting features that I came across; 🔵 A patient callback feature means that patient’s don’t have to spend all morning with their phone pressed against their ear. If a patient phones, they can then hang up and keep their place in the queue. They then receive a callback when they reach the front of the queue. 🔵 For clinical staff, Surgery Connect enables a smooth crossover between triage systems and patient records, allowing staff to call or text patients with the click of a button, rather than manually dialling. Phone consultations can then be easily switched to a video consultation mid-call when appropriate. I imagine this could have great utility across mental health services, as well as dermatology focused appointments amongst others. 🔵 To help reduce pressures on reception staff, Surgery Connect displays an up-to-date waiting time for phone lines to reduce frustration from patients. Alongside this, automatic patient identification and record switching saves crucial time at the beginning of each call as well. 🔵 Finally, for practice managers; Surgery Connect allows managers to make adjustments to particular call flows or recorded messages to respond to real-time changes. On top of this, practice managers can receive automatic insights into volume and demand, for better resource management and allocation. #primarycare #GP #healthconsulting

Posterior crossbite corrections in the early mixed dentition with quad helix or rapid maxillary expander: a cost-effectiveness analysis of a randomized controlled trial Posterior Crossbite Corrections in Early Mixed Dentition: Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Background Unilateral posterior crossbite is a common dental issue in children, and early treatment is recommended for normal growth. The choice of appliances for correcting this condition is important, especially when considering the cost-effectiveness of treatment. Objectives This study aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of quad helix (QH) and rapid maxillary expanders (RME) in children in the early mixed dentition. Results – The success rate of both QH and RME was similar. – From a healthcare perspective, the mean cost difference favored QH by €32.05. – From a societal perspective, the mean cost difference was €32.61 in favor of QH. – The total appliance cost alone was higher in the RME group. – The probability of RME having a higher cost was 71% from a healthcare perspective and 62.7% from a societal perspective. – The total treatment time was 97 days longer in the QH group. Conclusion While the cost difference between RME and QH is not statistically significant, there is a slightly higher probability that RME is more expensive than QH. Different work procedures at different centers indicate that logistics around the patient’s treatment are more important than the appliance used to decrease the number of visits and save chair time and costs. Value of Clinical Trials and Practical Solutions Clinical trials are essential for developing safe and effective treatments. Our AI-driven platform, DocSym, consolidates ICD-11 standards, clinical protocols, and research into an easily accessible knowledge base for clinicians. Streamlining Healthcare Operations In today’s healthcare environment, streamlining operations is crucial. Our mobile apps support scheduling, monitoring treatments, and telemedicine, making it easier to manage patient care and expand services digitally. Enhancing Workflows with AI By using AI, clinics can enhance their workflows and improve patient outcomes while reducing paper routines. https://lnkd.in/dmAqkKHA The Levin Group Annual Orthodontic Survey is well worth a read (link above) it addresses many important findings from 2023 and gives some ideas about moving forwards. One interesting insight was the rise in the use of monitoring to cover the orthodontic "quick check" a 31% increase from '22 to '23. This indicates a shift in workflow - considering what is convenient for most patients yet also a better use of time for practices. We talk about it every week, it is not about seeing all the patients less, it is about seeing the patients at the right time as dictated by what is happening with their treatment and biology. It just so happens that most patients won't need to come in as often if they are being compliant with their treatment (also helped by the effect of monitoring). Two areas that stand out as under utilised to me are retainer checks and emergencies: * Retention - It is very straightforward to use companies like Retainers4Life who can take care of monitoring patients in the crucial retention aspect of the patient's orthodontic journey. We can use monitoring to detect slight relapse, Oral Hygiene and more significant relapse, importantly allowing you to take action if things start to derail. * Emergencies - How often is an Orthodontic emergency really an emergency? We hear of all sorts of processes being used to deal with emergency calls. From automatically being booked in on the day no matter what to some sort of whatsapp system with patients sending attempted photos of their emergencies. How about patients messaging via DentalMonitoring with their potential emergency (freeing up valuable reception phone time), then being asked to use their scanbox to send a high quality intraoral image straight through to the practice. This way you can see exactly what you are dealing with and more often than not triage the situation, can they deal with it at home with an instructed and annotated image, can they wait until next appointment, or do they really need to come in asap? Most practices find that it frees up a significant amount of emergency slots out of their daily diary. How could you utilise monitoring to aid your practice? Ed #dentalmonitoring #ai #orthodontics
