Building Bonds Beyond the Office Walls 🌟 We organised a special team-building event for the Singapore contracting sales team and assignment support team. We took to the vibrant streets of Chinatown, Singapore, forming different teams to complete a series of engaging tasks. The objective was clear: foster an environment where every team member could showcase and leverage their unique strengths. It wasn't just about ticking off tasks; it was about connecting on a personal level. Through this activity, we aimed to see each other beyond our professional roles and truly get to know the person behind the desk. The experience was enriching. We discovered personal anecdotes and histories that have shaped our colleagues. Malaysia is ranked 21st as a global destination for work, while Kuala Lumpur (KL) is the 26th top city in the world to work in, according to Jobstreet by SEEK’s Decoding Global Talent 2024 report. The report highlighted that KL ranked fifth among Asian cities, behind Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Beijing. Exploring Regional Recruitment Strategies: Insights from Hong Kong and Singapore When diving into recruitment across different regions, I've noticed the landscape can really change depending on where you are. Working with Gravitas in Hong Kong and Singapore, two dynamic but distinct markets, was quite the eye-opener. 🤓 In Hong Kong, the game was all about drawing in new talent. Post-COVID, the city saw its workforce dwindle, putting the pressure on to not just attract fresh faces but to also lure away top talent from their current roles. 🌟 Singapore, on the flip side, tightened up on expat work requirements, shifting our focus towards making the most of the talent we already knew. Clients were more interested in our local talent strategy and how we were engaging talent entering the workforce. 🌱 These experiences got me thinking about the recruitment scene in Europe. - Reflecting on My Time Working in Singapore - I just started a new consulting project in Singapore, and I’m already experiencing the dynamic and challenging work environment that this vibrant city has to offer. The city’s pace is exhilarating, but it comes with its unique set of challenges, especially in achieving work-life balance. Here are some key learnings for anyone embarking on a similar journey: 1. Embrace the Culture: Singapore is a melting pot of cultures, and understanding local customs and business etiquette is crucial. Take the time to learn and appreciate the diverse perspectives within your team and clients. 2. Effective Team Mobilization: As a project lead, it's vital to foster a sense of unity and purpose within your team. Regular check-ins, clear communication, and setting realistic expectations can go a long way. Encourage open dialogue and make sure everyone feels heard and valued. 3. Transitioning Ways of Working: Adapting to the local work style is essential. In Singapore, efficiency and precision are highly valued. Implement structured workflows and leverage technology to streamline processes. Be flexible and open to new methods, and lead by example to instill these practices in your team. 4. Prioritize Personal Health and Sleep: The demanding work culture can take a toll on your health. Make it a point to set boundaries and stick to them. Singapore, AKA my ‘second home’ has always been good to me. But it’s not easy… I love every minute that I spend visiting on work trips. Usually I manage to get a day or so either side to explore, see friends, and eat awesome food, but sadly this one short trip will limit me to just meetings. Singapore has to be the easiest cities to get around in, and one of the most welcoming. Since I started to explore business in Asia back in 2012, I have found one thing to be consistent… the welcoming, helpful, and humble nature of this great city. It is however one that you need to invest serious time, energy, and money into in order for you prove your worth. Don’t think that just because you meet a client in Singapore that is welcoming, and helpful that they don’t expect results in return…. oh no, you will need to deliver - and even more so if you are not based permanently in the city. After 12 years of working on Singapore based business I still find myself learning new methods and ways of working with people, and fully understand why sometimes I’m not 1st choice to go to (rare and shocking as that might be). 😂 However I’m hugely grateful to those brands and businesses that have given me the opportunity to partner with them, and of course entrust their recruitment process through me. One of the key takeaways from these experiences has been the surprising simalrities! What are the main recurring themes across cultures? The power of a strong, positive company culture. Regardless of location or language, thriving businesses consistently prioritise shared values, employee well-being, and a growth mindset. These values and experiences have helped form the foundation of my own business philosophy. I have tried to summarise them below: 1. Shared Values & Trust:  Establishing clear values that guide behavior and fostering open communication create a foundation of trust, essential for any successful team. 2. People & Belonging:  Investing in employee well-being, fostering diversity, and creating a sense of belonging ensure everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. 3. Continuous Improvement & Recognition:  Regularly seeking feedback, recognising achievements, and promoting a culture of learning foster a dynamic and thriving environment.
